Manual or Automatic??

1/4 time how much time difference is there between a manual trans and an automatic trans.

Specifically looking at the 02 and 03 with the 255HP 3.5

I am looking to purchase a max (02 or 03) and am having a really hard time finding the 6 speed. Is it really worth it?? Or should I just settle for the Auto. Anyone compare times between cars ??? A stock vs stock Manual and auto??

Anu replies would be greatly appreciated.

It's really worth it for the 6speed if your want speed. the 6speed 02-03 would run on avg a 14.4 depending on the driver of course. A little wheel spin at the launch will give a 2.4 60' which will give you a nasty high 14! I've seen stock 02 6speeds run 14.3 tho. The auto would run about high 14s-really low 15s.

I have and people are posting mid to high 14's with the Auto bone stock. I drove one tonight and really like the auto. I am currently driving a Dodge Spirit R/T (Dual overhead cam Turbo)running mid to high 14's and this is truely very comparible.

With the 6 Speed being so hard to find it would have to be a huge difference in performance to go that route.

with slicks one of the 2k2 guys hit 13.8. but my auto takes of just fine... runnin cartest shows that the 6 speed will definatly have a good advantage running 0-60 (.4 seconds i believe it was) and the G-force that it calculates is significantly greater. i'm still up in the air over whether i should have got the 6 speed or auto. but basically for the once a week (maybe) 0-50 run i have with another car compared to the everyday stop and go stuff i'm in, its well worth having the auto cause its so much less hassle driving aroudn

Thanks for the reply !!!

After reading allot of the posts on the board here and seeing what the Automatis is made of I drove one last night. I do have to say that I was very impressed. Not doggy of the line at all like I though it would be great Tourqe and power !!!
I previously owned a 96 with complete stillen exhaust and intake. I have to say that th stock 2003 that I drove and purchased today is a bit faster than my previous max that ran 14.8 in the 1/4 so I am happy. Hell this thing doesn't have any mods on it yet. I think that the 2003 that I just bought could easily be turned into a low 14 or high 13 second car with some cash and the right mods.

Thanks to all that replied

The VQ35 has so bloody much torque that it can spin those long auto gears with ease. The 6spds are still a tad faster, but it's not nearly as much of a difference. If you do bracket racing, get the auto though. The 6spd is very tough to launch, and the shifter isn't the best which leads to a lot of inconsistency.

I would still try to find a 6spd just because I like the control and responsiveness a lot better. Either way there are pluses and minuses.

Yeah I am very excited as I pick it up today at 4:30. I also will be leaving the car in full dress. It appears from reading the posts in the 1/4 and 1/8 mile forum that mid to high 14's is times to expect bone stock (Can any of you auto guys chime in on this can I expect a stock 14 second car???).

I have a 1992 Spirit R/T (Dual overhead Cam Turbo that runs mid 14 seconds and the max appears by feel to be very comparable.

Do me a favor anthunny keep me posted as to your mods and times and I will do the same lets pull of some thirteens.
