Baseline runs for my 2k2 SE

I went up to Atlanta Dragway tonight and made 5 passes to get a baseline before my mods. First off, I learned that I suck at launching a FWD car and I like to doze off at the tree. Other than that, and my tendency to miss 3rd gear I think it was ok. Not great, but ok. Here are my runs. Car is completely stock, I drove it to the track, had 1/4-1/8 of a tank, didn't mess with my tire pressure, and didn't remove anything from the car.

1st

R/T 1.309
60' 2.456
330 6.641
1/8 10.080
MPH 70.97
1000 13.025
1/4 15.477
mph 90.64

I take off and as I'm running my cell phone starts ringing and I ended up missing 3rd gear then proceded on . I figured 90.64 is not a bad mph for missing a gear.

2nd

R/T 1.332
60' 2.487
330 6.652
1/8 9.992
MPH 73.97
1000 12.844
1/4 15.238
mph 94.15

Again, I sucked it up at the tree, but I was happy with 94.15 mph. I ended up bouncing off the rev limiter at the very end. I also left my a/c running. Oops! I don't know how much it hurts, but I figure it doesn't help.

3rd

R/T 1.347 (at least I'm consistent!)
60' 2.469
330 6.608
1/8 10.146
MPH 66.79
1000 13.213
1/4 15.727
mph 88.55

Another damn missed 3rd gear shift! Ahh! No phone to blame. Had my a/c on for this one too.

4th

R/T .909 (finally was halfway awake!)
60' 2.447
330 6.572
1/8 9.909
MPH 74.20
1000 12.762
1/4 15.173
mph 93.51

Fairly happy with this run, if I could launch worth a damn, I'd be in the 14s. Remembered to turn the a/c off this time. I also shifted into 4th this time at the end instead of bouncing off the limiter.

5th

R/T 1.051
60' 2.477
330 6.632
1/8 9.983
MPH 73.71
1000 12.845
1/4 15.268
mph 93.10

Shifted into 4th again on this run and had the a/c blowing.

The only thing I could compare my car to were 2 G35 coupes and 1 350Z. They were in the high 14s, 14.7-14.8. One guy dipped to 14.5 with a great launch. Their mph was 96-98. I know I saw an AFC mounted on the dash of one of the G35s, but assumed they were all stock otherwise. The Z had some nice rims though. Don't know if that did anything for or against him weight and traction wise.

good times and fun reading it all, i have seen a g35 coupe doing those times too . i actually was going to post a vid i have of one while i was at the track, the guy is chirping 3rd ...????

i hope to be going back to the track in 4-5 more days to hopefully beat my present record. my launch is not good either, you sit around thinking your somekind of street legend and you get out their with the lights and such and you just end up making a fool out of yourself ..lol

with practice we will one day say," bye bye to those nasty 15's !!"

After watching other people, I really didn't feel bad at all. I am still disapointed at my times because I know they could be a bit better, but I was really more concerned about getting my MPH before I start modifying. It does suck to go from a 1.8 60' in my GSX to these 2.4s. Ugh! Time to practice . It was all fun though!

Yep, everyone thinks they're John Force and when they get to the track they experience the truth. I takes quite a few passes to get decent times out of the your car. I had never drag raced FWD until I got my Maxima. The first 2 months I racing I was consistently in the 15.3-15.6@91mph range. I learned and practiced and realized dumping the clutch is never the answer. Launch at 3000-4000rpms with a little clutch slippage and feathering of the gas and watch your ETs drop and MPH go up. I went from 15.3-15.6@91 to 14.8-14.9@93mph with no changes in mods.

As for snoozing at the line, if you want a better RT (doesn't affect your ET at all), leave the line the very second you see the final amber come on. You NEVER wait for the green, EVER.

I've done it once, but can't seem to do it again.

Speaking of shifting, the damn shifter is too long. I was driving to work today and put my hand at the base of the collar to shift. This seems to work much better for me. Do they have a short shifter for the 6 speed yet? It needs to be at least 2 inches shorter. I think this would help reduce the lag between gears and help keep me in the powerband (and maybe I wouldn't miss 3rd next time !).

Thanks for the advice Dave. I'll have to try that out. I think I'm a little timid at the launch because I don't want to end up smoking my clutch so I end up bogging instead. I also think I'm flooring it to soon.

I too went to the track and ran my car for the first time...

I missed third on my first run also - pretty funny. I did manage a 14.8 and my next run with a slower shift to third to make sure I got it in the gate yeilded a 14.6 I think I hit the traps at 95-97mph, I will need to get my timeslips out.

Based on the above times are these considerably faster then what you guys ahve seen or are they on par with the 2002's ?

I ran it totally stock off the street, full interior and spare, 1/8 tank of gas, normal tire pressure on the potenszas.

Hey speed6, I think my buddy ran next to you. He was in a 96 Accord, he ran a 16.3. He told me he was against a 2k2 max that ran a low 15. He was VERY disappointed considering he has an H22a swap with CAI/H/E and pulleys along with a few other goodies...

yeah bro 16.3 is horrible. I sold my 4th gen lude about 2 months ago and it was running in the low 14s. Could have hit 13s all motor if i would have got some cam gears and did some tuning. Man that car had potential but it was falling to pieces.

he has the obd1 H22a, he's put $7k into that car after his cold air intake sucked up water and blew his original motor. I've been in it a couple times and he has NOTHING in low end. 3rd and 4th pull pretty nice though...does anyone know what he should be running-low 14's right??
