1st time at the track, read my horrible story/times =(

Hey all, I went up to the track with my friends today and it was a huge motercycle/muscle car event so I only got 2 runs in. Keep in mind that this was my first time there. Let alone I was nervous and scared as hell, why? i have no idea. My first ran I messed up my launch and total destroyed my time which was in the 17s. My second and final run I did an all right launch 2.6 60' which isn't to bad for a beginning 5spd track driver, atleast I think so, I was going strong but I struggled and missed 2nd gear, and I was out of gear for atleast a second and totaly destoryed my time again, which was 16.6. I figured out that I went in with so much overconfidence and came out with great dissapointment. I'm going up with the maxima crew next week, hopefully low 15's with no driving mess ups =P
PS.
I had no idea how to burn out and plus I was scarred as hell so I didn' tknow what to do so I ended up not burning out.
-Scott

Hopefully better next time!
Thanks

hey scott,

im a 4th time newbie ready for my 5th time at any dragway ..anywhere..lol ..

first off dont worry about your times, your first time out is to have fun and get a feel of the track.. and im finding out they are all a bit different.

man it sure is fun isnt it ..!! i also did not want to do a burn out .. i felt like a turd in front of everyone with my front wheel drive. but i have found out this.. even with street tires ( dont really need a burn out) but even with street tires if you have to go in the water, you need to get that water off.. it has been the case with me.

when im all watered down i spin all the way down the track .. all you have to do on a burn out is give a bit of gas and ease the clutch out gently, not harsh .. this way you will notice the tires spinning but you dont hear anything .. follow me ... then as soon as you hear the tires start to screech out !!! then you are done ..all this is just a few seconds now.

think about riding around after a heavy rain, if you take off you dont hear anything other than your tires spinning ... thats just like at the track , if your tires are wet just spinnin them until you hear them bark/squeel and thats that .. if they start squealing out instantly then just stop, there dry.

one thing is for certain, you will do much better. i was able to get some runs in tonight, 7 of them i think. Ok track, but no one was there really.

the car really enjoys the cooler weather.. look for a video in this section in a day or so . i went solo so its an in car camera .. im going to put everything in from start to finish .. so check it out .. and way to go !!

now if some of the more experienced drivers say this is hogwash then you and i both will just can all this ...ha ha !! lol !!

Thanks chariot, I did have a really good time. For the burn out I was told to not go into the water and then rev up to like 3000 and dump the clutch and pull the ebrake...so I was really scared to try that. I know that if I just tell myself when I'm up there that this is a carefree thing, that I don't have to get all freaked out and nervous I won't mis-shift and I will break into those 14's. BTW what do you launch at on street tires?
Also on the way home all my friends did highway racing and I raced my friend in his RSX type s that has an injen intake and some new really awesome ecu and I kept up with him, even began to pull on him he had a few feet on me but then I hit my govener and my fuel cut out. I was so ****ed! But I know that rsx is capable of low 14's so I think I can break into the 14's if I'm not so nervous!

Thanks Caesar,
-Scott

I'd recommend against burning out unless you're running the proper compound to do it. If the tires end up hating the heat you give them, your traction will worsen.

Just mash the pedal through in 1st without the e-brake, and let them spin a bit... don't do anything unnecessary.
