I've been wanting some cheap wheels to use just at the track for Drags. How heavy are steelies, could I just order a set of those? Any other ideas on what rims or where I might be able to get some really cheap rims for dragging? The factory wheels have winter tires on them and could use those, but I then have to spend money every season to change them out.

 

i forget about which ones i have seen in post that you might could get cheap, maybe a certain year model 300zx rim, the mazda millienum wheel , but i dont know much about those.

the kosei k1 racing wheel at tirerack. you could check on rota subzeros what are they like 450-500 shipped in a 16.

keep in mind i dont know much about the tires and wheels but i am having trouble looking for drag radials for a 16 so you might want to get 15 inch rims. they were just to small for me because at the time i got my new rims it was my only set and still is now and i didnt want to be on 15's driving around town and such.

anyways i have a great deal to learn about drag radials, and slicks and best rim size which is probably going to be 15's because of inertia drag (sorry about crap job spelling), wheel weight, and gearing which is better with the smaller rim on our 4th gens...(is this right guys?)

anyways i went with 16's and i may suffer in the long run unless i can find a drag radial that will work. just havent looked into it.

 

I saw Dave B post about those Mazda Millenia 15" wheels. I may try to score myself a pair of those if I can really find them for about 40 bucks. Can't really beat that.

Millenia wheels are lighter and less expensive-er

The 2 downsides to the millenia wheels are a) they are only 6" wide and b) they are ugly.

 

I don't think they are ugly. I am using them for my track setup right now with 195/45R15 Toyo T1-S tires. It's a setup that weighs only 27lbs and I still don't have much traction issues.

I got mine shipped for like $90. Which I thought was a good price for these wheels in good condition.

When I start having traction issues... :cough: High stall TC or nitrous .... I will TRY to find a way to mount MT 22x8x15 slicks on these wheels. I think Jime tried it and couldn't get them to fit. But I've seen other imports mount this size slick on a different 15x6 wheel. I hope it's possible. If it's not possible, then I will have to get Roadmaster 23x6x15 slicks, which I KNOW will fit.

 

Thanks Guys. My goal is cheap and lightweight here. I don't race enough to warrant big money on wheels and tires, but can justify some good tires for the front if I can find a set of cheap rims for mounting. I've found a local junkyard that sells the 9 spoke Millenia wheels for 45 bucks a wheel, so that ain't too bad.
