16 sec heavily modded 4th gen?

Well, today I went to Englishtown NJ to get some runs in. I saw twotone on the way there (belt pkwy, I flashed my lights but didnt know if you saw me).

I have complete exhaust from the header back. Intake. Ground wires. 1 step colder plugs. Rims and tires (17 inch)

Good news and bad news.

The Good:
The 60 shot shaved 1.7 seconds off my 1/4 mile time
The Bad (very):
My N/A 1/4 mile times were 16.002 to 15.927
Im trying to figure out where I went wrong
-traction was good
-humidity was at %77
-temp was at 43
-tranny temp was at 150
-kept it in D with O/D off (no manual shifting)
-torque braked it to the most possible
-my alignment is off
-my tensioner pulley is making noise (getting fixed soon)

Here is my N/A run:
r/t - .481
60' - 2.464
330 - 6.790
1/8 - 10.328
MPH- 70.32
1000-13.348
1/4 - 15.927
MPH- 87.04

Boosted Run:
r/t - .635
60' - 2.222
330 - 5.994
1/8 - 9.170
MPH - 77.30
1000 - 11.947
1/4 - 14.312
MPH - 94.72

Now if I was running a reasonable 14.8 for my mods N/A with spray I would hopefully pull a low 13 second time. Any Ideas of what could have gone wrong?

do you have a y-pipe? was this your first time to the track? do you have a sound system(subs)?

could be your knock sensor?

catback intake, ground wires and sparkplugs arent really going to make you much faster than stock, if they do your larger/heavier rims will negate those gains

stock auto should be in the 15.7 - 16 sec range

i dont think there is anyone with your mods running as low as a 14.8 N/A auto

good luck

I do have a ypipe. the car weighed in at 3155 without driver, with a toolbox in the back, spare removed, and no subs.

You guys have to remember that when your using colder plugs, you will lose some HP. I thought you didn't need to run colder plugs with 50 or 60 shots?

I know that, I am hoping to get a higher shot once I get a new fuel pump, and for safety sake I did them now. Anyone else get similar times with these mods and a 60 shot? I just realized that my bottle presure did not reach above 650 as well.

Well your N/A 60ft time was horrible so thats a big part of the problem. You need to get that down to 2.3 or lower at least then you will be seeing much better times.

Good Luck

How is the tread on your tires? Maybe the track wasn't hooking really well that day. Your short time 2.46x has a lot to do with the 15.92x et. You are running at least a half a second slow. With a decent launch 2.26 60', you can be running mid 15's. A 2.26 60' is doable with a good set of tires and a good launch. A 2.1 being good tires, hall of fame launch, and a sticky track.

I wouldn't sweat it, 14.3's at 95mph on the juice is mighty good. Besides you said it yourself, your bottle pressure wasn't where you wanted it. perhaps with good rubber, and everything going your way, you can get 13's. Good luck man!

the 2.4xx 60' time on your N/A run was probably most of the problem. Your 15.9 would have been a 15.5 or so if you were able to pull a 2.2 60'. The other part of the problem is the 1 step colder plugs. They only hurt your N/A performance and have been dyno proven to cause you to lose 10-20hp over time. That probably cost you another few tenths.

There's too many variables. How are your tires? Still decent tread? Do you usually hook up well from a standstill when you floor it, or do you spin like crazy? If you spin them up at will, traction is obviously an issue. Before I got my Sumi HTR+'s, I could spin through intersections with the Potenza's and couldn't cut better than a 2.25, usually did 2.3's and 2.4's.

If traction isn't an issue, I suggest trying to brake torque at 1500rpm, and go into throttle slow for first two car lengths, then stab the throttle. You can try launching at 1000rpm off idle, or torquing her up to right before you start to lurch forward, probably 2200 rpm or so. Just because you have a full head of steam coming out of the box will not guarantee a good 60' or et.

Practice, practice, practice

those numbers sound reasonable to me. i dont know if your auto or five speed. with my auto, a couple of mods and 60 shot dry i averaged
14.3@ 99mphs all day. what a five speed im sure the nubers would be
a little better but these are real numbers that i put. ive heard of
other times but if there real i dont know. but i tell you your on the right track just a little more fine tuning and you can definitley see lower times.

Launch is the key. If you have a bad start, it is all downhill from there. I will let you know in a couple of weeks if the big brake conversion is helpful for autos off the line. I can't get my car to sit still above 2200 rpm. If I could hold it til 2600, I'd be fine. You should work on the N/A time since the better that is, the more difference the juice will make.
