After the track, I know that...

I now know (well am pretty sure) that I can't drive for crap. I have a 97 5-speed, and I can't break 15.9. I went to the track for the second time tonight. I ran three 16.xx's and a 15.96. I just added an udp and a sts a week ago. I was running 15.9 my first ever day at the track. I don't know what the deal is, except my car sucks bad, or I suck bad at driving.

Setup is as follows:

Frankencar Intake
Budget Y
MotoStorm UDP
B&M STS
28 psi in front tires
two 12's in the trunk.

What's the deal? I should at least be in mid-low 15's right? if not high 14's

Car feels like it's driving well. I do get wheel hop in first, and get a good chirp in 2nd, but I can't get passed 88mph or 15.9. I suck.

post up your best timeslip stats and dont be so hard on yourself. i know that when i took out my subs with the box it weighed 65 pounds, the amp was 8 or 10 pounds and thats close to knocking you back .1

as you probably know your 60 foot will tell you alot about the suck factor? i hear you should check out your knock sensor, you getting any codes?

what size rims and how heavy are they ?

you also need to look at the tires and see what kind of condition they are in . im still learning all this stuff to but it could be its just a few things you need to look into to bring up up to fighting shape.

Ok, I went out to the car this morning to get times slips, and check ecu. Results are that I do have a KS code. Which is good and bad. It's good b/c that explains some of my slow driving. Its bad b/c I thought I had it fixed when I changed out the 02 sensor. After fixing the 02 sensor, two days later I checked the ecu and got the no problems detected code (0505). So I figured the 02 caused the ks to malfunction. Guess not.

Anyways, here's my best time slip at 15.98

r/t .499
60' 2.43
330 6.815
1/8 10.37
1/4 115.98

Haha, the thing that ****ed me off about this race was that it was against a 96ish eclipse with turbo. I had him at 60' and then he roasted me bad. for a second I thought i was going to actually run a good time, and then all I saw his huge muffler screaming at me in the distance.

Oh yeah, tires a just street tires. After lowering the fronts down to 28 psi, they did stick a little better than the first time I'd raced at 34psi

Before I even got halfway through your first post I was gonna say that your KS was bad.

The KS is independent of the O2's and any other sensor. O2's do not cause the KS to go bad like a ot of people seem to think. But the KS isn't critical for emissions, so it just doesn't light the SES. You'll never see it until something else goes bad, so people just think "something else" is what caused it, and that it'll go away after "something else" is fixed.

Timing advance goes from about 25 degrees at high RPM and WOT with a good KS on 93 gas to about 10 degrees at high RPM at WOT with a bad one. 15 degrees difference, and about 1% power per degree of timing comes out to about 165 bhp instead of 190 bhp (excluding mods), so that completely explains your times.

so why would the ks code go away after fixing the 02 sensor? I reset everything and got the 0505 (all good) code? sorry, just a little confused.

well im thinking once you reset the ecu, the problem was still there, it just took some driving for the ecu to find it again. ?
