First track visit of the year (13.69@102)

Today I went to Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga to meet with Jime and his son to start the season. $5 canadian, all you could run, and there was nobody there. I got in 8 runs, but that's because I didn't want to push too much, plus I would have run out of gas (none for sale at the track).

It was really freakin cold (35ish) and there was NO rubber in the track. There was no traction to be had...at all. My first several runs (on street tires) where:

14.8@102, 14.8@100, 14.2@103, 14.6@102. The best 60' time I could manage was a 2.55. Horriable. I spun all of 1st, 2nd, most of 3rd and the top of 4th at the line. Add on to that the fact that the track (left lane mainly) was bumpy, and I was all over the track.

Then Jim let me use his slicks, which are 22" and a bit to small for a 5sp, but still a whole lot better than street tires. I ran a 14.1@102 and a 14.2@100. Both with crappy 2.4 40' times, which is bad for street tires, let alone slicks.

Then we took a break for about 45 minutes for lunch and watched car after car go down the track. Went back out again and ran the following:

Code:
R/T: .875
60': 2.207
330': 5.961
1/8: 8.943@82.20
1000': 11.517
1/4: 13.694@102.44
The difference in the track was amazing. You could really tell that there was rubber being put down. Even Jim ran faster times then he did all day. On this run I had problems with my fuel pressure (it kinda dropped way to far), so after this I hung it up for the day.

A 2.2 60' is what I should be pulling on street tires, so I think the above time is similar to what I'll get once it gets warmer out. Even with Jim's slicks I was spinning all of first and the top of second. I think they were too small for my gearing and power.

I'm planning on getting slicks (24" at least) once I get my tax return, so I may be having a run at low 13's...who knows.

I know how frustrating it can be with traction issues. I am almost done using street tires, it's just no fun sometimes. Nice times!

Eric, get your fueling issue sorted out and lets play around with that SAFC. Your setup can go faster for sure and get some 24" slicks and low 13's high 12's are not out of the question. A 2.2 60ft and 13.6 will be a low 13 with a 1.9 60ft which you should be able to pull... Look at how much the 22's helped you and they are horibly mis-matched for your setup.

Fun day today, thanks for comin out!

That 13.6xx run had to have made your day, what after cutting such bad short times. I was sorta chuckling reading the part where you mentioned about 2.2xx being the 60' you should be getting on street tires...that's just scary!

I think with nice sticky track and a good launch a 2.0xx 60' time obviously is in your future with slicks...Looks like low 13's are in store!

I hope everything works out, your times and traps are very impressive! 4dr fwd my ****, a fast car is a fast car!!! I have friends who drive Vette Z06's and they goof on the Max people for modding their cars, but in reality we are no different than other car freaks. We want to make a statement and be different... Some of us are just a bit quicker than others

Good stuff ejj. I didn't know Jime was going or I would have gone too!

BTW you went to St. Thomas, not Cayuga (TMP). Cayuga doesn't open until May. They do have a better track so you should make a trip up then too.

Anish it was TMP they both opened the same day. However I think St Thomas would have been better, they did absolutely no track prep at all beforehand and there was no traction till late in the aft like Eric said. However for $5 it was closer than St Thomas.

Eric did you download the video?

Yes, I did thank you! My car is freakin loud.

I've decided on getting slicks (as if you didn't already know that). Just waiting for the IRS to get their act together and get me my money back.

I'm also thinking of getting a wideband like Stephen Max has with a guage, etc. I think that would be useful.

I wasn't thrilled with the track at all. Lack of track prep asside, it seemed pretty bumpy, espescially the left lane. I was getting kicked all over the place just after half track. True, my constant spinning of the tires didn't help things.

Oh wow really? I had no idea TMP was open! I thought I checked! My bad...

If I was going I'd have gone to St. Thomas anyway... equidistant for me. I wonder if they had any better luck on their day 1!
