Race gas didn't help my trap speeds at all today with JWT ECU and MEVI
Today was the worst day I've ever had at the track, I haven't run this slow in about a year and a half, but anyhow, I did come to the conclusion that at least for my car, race gas does nothing.
It was hot as hell and EVERYONE was running very slowly.
I made one pass right when I got there, at probably 76 degrees or so, before I put in any race gas. I trapped 98.15mph, that was my highest trapspeed of the entire day
Then I mixed in 2 gallons of 104 with probably 4 gallons of 93, resulting in about 97 octane. I never broke out of 97mph traps until my last pass of the day, and I made about 10 of them. also my ETs were
because I couldn't hook up for the life of me, I've literally never cut 60's in my life. My best of the day was a 2.25, that's usually my worst. Most of them were right around 2.30 with some as high as 2.38 wtf. Anyways, best ET was also on that first pass of the day (2.28 60') 14.30 @ 98.15 and it just went downhill from there.
Like I said everything was running way slow today. Mike was only trapping like 95-96, Modded evo trapping 97, wrx STI trapped 99, blown 99 mustang 5spd trapping 105, and brians bike was trapping 122 when it should be trapping around 126. so yeah today at the track sucked but the point of this thread was that race gas didn't do anything for me whatsoever, just a waste of $10 which could have gone towards my turbo or some food because I haven't eaten anything but a sandwich all day.
There were a number of max guys there and it was good to see you guys again, and to meet the guys I had never met before.

well this just sucks ! im all ready for trying some race gas , bought a 5 gallon jug, and some other stuff. this report doesnt sound to promising, but i guess im going to give it a shot as well.
im gonna try mixing 20-30 miles away and reset the ecu or something, not really sure what im going to do.
what is up with first pass best pass ? this has also been happening to me. its like going to vegas and gambling. you make one pass and keep trying to hit another jackpot but it never comes. as of late this has been happening to me. ONE AND DONE !
good to hear you got out and made some passes though. i was all set for sunday and the front left wheel bearing is shot ! so im sitting home !
neal, 14.30 ? lol look out , your in chariot territory !

why would you even condider running race gas?
unless your under high boost applications, or are running a srious;y aggresive timing curve you will only LOSE power by running a higher octane. the higher the octane the slower it burns in your combustion chamber. thats why high compression / boosted applications need to run premium (91-93).
IF, IF, IF .................
you run race gas in a vehicle tuned for pump gas then you will gain nothing and more than likely lose HP.
if you get second tune (dont know how you maximas tune your cars) like a flip chip or something then race gas may benefit you. this is why you can easily foul your plugs too with too high of an octane... NOT NECESSARY....
like i said ... if your gonna run race gas get a second tune.. a street tune and a race tune... any reputable tuner should be able to do this

i dont know much about it, most of the guys have the upgraded ecu's, and even with 2 gallons of 93 and 1 gallon of 100 you looking at approx. 95.3 or something close.
i wanted to experiment with it due to my upgraded ecu causing a bit of engine ping on chevron 93. my thinking was mixing the octane at times or using octane boost would help combat the problem. it seems to work but again just started messing with it. any thoughts?

Why would I consider it? I'm using an ECU which has been known to, in some cases, increase ignition timing to the point of preignition, that's why. A few people running my setup, including my good friend mike, who has identical mods to me, sees a night and day difference on race gas. He gains 2mph when he runs with a few gallons of 104 octane mixed in, and it works like clockwork for him. He gets to the track, runs with 93, and then mixes in a few gallons of 104, and viola, he's 2mph faster.
Also, I certainly didn't lose power, as I didn't run any slower the two times I ran it, I just didn't run any faster this time either.
if your detonating then yel youll benefit.....
if not then it will not benefit you... higher octane is not higher performance, it just allows more of an aggressive tune....
as long as you understand that then good luck, and i hope you find your problem

I don't think he has a problem, he has the fastest known NA maxima.
I have close to 100 passes with my advanced timing ECU and running 96ish octane makes all the difference for me.

Weather plays a big factor guys, it wasn't an optimal day to run. Not to mention track prep wasnt really stellar that day...
