I'm going to the track for the 1st time this weekend and am going to be buying some rims and rubber next week. I scanned all the posts back to 2003 and from what I've gathered narrow street tires (like 205) are considered better than wider ones like 235mm.

Is this because of weight alone? I would've thought that wider, grippy street tires would launch better than narrower tires, given the same rim and tire model. Just wondering what size tires I should get with the wheel (btw I'm getting Kozei K1 TS 17" rims - good balance between weight and looks I think).

Narrow tires way better traction in snow.

 

To a point narrower tires are better for straightline traction because the tread pattern is long length-wise which means more tread gets put down for straightline traction. With wider tires the tread pattern is narrow, but wide (good for cornering).
