Zip tie mod

Which ones would you suggest I get to reduce wheel hop? They range from 11 to 40 inches and from 120 lbs to 250 lbs. How many of each?

I have no idea of the ratings on the ones I used, but they're roughly 3/8ths of an inch wide. I used 6 (or maybe 5, dont remember) on each of the front shocks. They've actually been on since June, I expected them to break shortly after using them at the drags back then. They lasted through 3 dragging experiences this summer tho and I think helped with wheel hop/weight transfer. Hey I nailed a 14.1 with em, cant hurt! You only need like 6 inches worth, I used ones that were like 10 inches and cut the excess off once they're tight

Yeah, any pics? I assume you just go around from one rod near the bottom of the spring to one near the top while someone places some weight on it from above.

BTW, did it reduce the wheel gap, too?

lol, I wasn't asking for that... but I guess if you could get alot of 250lbs resist. ties (25$ for 50)... might work

Yes, that's probably why alot of FWD guys do it. Zip ties can get pretty ****ing huge. The 250 pound rating each ain't for nothing...

Weight transfer. When you floor it the front end rises and the rear drops. They made some rubbers (no, note those ones) to shove in the rear springs, so if you can get some AND zip tie your front springs, the front end rises much less, and the rear drops alot less.

Also, the faster the car is, the bigger the wheel gap. My dad used to have a 10-second car and on the videos the car looked like it wanted to fly due to the front end (I'm not talking about launch here). So he used chains to reduce that gap. It worked well but the car only lifted the front wheels 4-5 inches when he launched instead of 10" to a foot. He gained a tenth but decided he prefered his 12" weelie so he took 'em off.

And to anyone who thinks it helped him because of the launch and because he was RWD... his short times weren't any better. It only helped past the 330' mark. Didn't make much sense to me back then and still doesn't, but for how cheap this mod is it might be worth trying.

But since we're FWD, it's perfect for us and should work fine. I'm not saying you're gonna gain a tenth: I haven't tried it yet. But it shouldn't hurt.

I haven't done the mod myself, but it seems most people who do it use 5-10 zip ties per spring depending on strength. Tighten them while someone puts some weight above the spring. I'll try it myself soon.

ya, exactly what JClaw said. The zip ties just compress the front springs, or rather keep them from expanding (wrong word, but its early). You only need like 5 or so per spring

Then buy a ratcheting tow strap and hook that up and you can reduce wheel hop a little more. Unfortunately I don't know where to hook it up at. Maybe someone can inform us. With even pics possibly?

You mean hook the strap from the engine to the frame of the car, yes? I havent done that yet, but have heard it works quite nicely. Dont know where to hook it tho, never really examined the engine bay or saw pics. Would be interested to see where others have hooked it up though

Same here. You can notice how badly the engine moves just by looking at it when someone starts it. You'd need two ratcheting straps, one from the firewall (well, not really from the firewall but around that area) to the engine and another from the front to a solid place on the frame. Hell, maybe even 3. One for behind the engine, and two in front; each hooks to one side of the frame. Don't know where to hook 'em on the engine thought.

Can anyone else help us with maybe pics or something of where you have connected the tow strap to on the engine and on the car?

It appears to me that a good set of coilovers would solve all of these problems, but what do I know?

Surely you can just use a Engine dampener instead of getto straps across the engine.
