First time at the track with the Max 14.9

I have a stock (intake, strut bar and progress springs) 98 GXE 5 speed which I took to Englishtown today. I was hoping for low 15s but to my amazment I managed to pull a 14.9 I qualified in the bracket racing and won a little trophy. Very happy with the outcome and getting ready for some upgrades. How much does the y-pipe shave off of the 1/4 mile time? How about 50 shot of zex dry?
Thanx

ypipe is usually good for about .3 seconds or so if you run in the same conditions that you ran without it. good job.

So when can we expect your 12-second timeslips? 2-3 weeks?

all i know for a fact is my car feels much faster now than my 13.82 1/4 engine did.
this car now the way it is will eat my 3.0 car up badly. I rev my 3.5 just as high as my 3.0 and it revs much faster , It still making alot of power at 7500rpm.

Im worried though because i think i forgot the clutch break in

Not to be an a$$ at all, but your VQ35 isn't going to last being revved above 7000rpms. Those rods are super weak. In the 05 298-300hp G/Z motors, Nissan redesigned the block, rods, valvetrain to name a few, just so that you could reliably rev to the 7000rpm limiter. Crawford Performance, a well respected Z tuner, recommends going no higher than 6800rpms on the none 298-300hp VQ35s. I really don't see your motor lasting, but maybe a year and probably less if you continue to rev it above 7000rpms. I think you'll probably either see a thrown rod, headgasket failure (wasn't this the death of your VQ30?), or a spun bearing.

I thought they said 7200 would be fine with the ARP rod bolts?

Krismax, you need to give that clutch some time though...

Great times! Especially considering it was your first time at the track. Why do I have a feeling I won't be able to get close to that?

makes me feel REAL slow, i have a y-pipe and ts ecu and still can only get a 15.041 1/4 mile, im blaming my slipping clutch, slow shifting and horrible 60 ft times..

good job on the 1/4 mile run..

Hey in the pic in your sig are you just revving at a standstill? I can't see the needle on your speedometer, but you don't have a seatbelt on. If you're driving without a seatbelt, then
Never go without mine.

Interesting, people were saying that I would only run a 14.4 with headers and a y-pipe. I currently have neither and run a 14.8. So the headers component would only down my time by .1? All this on a 3.5L.

<Yes, this statement is full or sarcasm and yes I am being an @ss, just thought it would get my point across>

Seriously, I knew my time would drop more than .3-.4 with headers/y-pipe on a 3.5L. Just kinda surprised people were saying as such.

What? I don't really inderstand your point? Are you saying that I'm wrong in estimating that a Ypipe is good for about .3 in the 1/4, on average?

14s are a given if you have i/y and are a decent driver lol. I ran a low 14.7 @94 with a low 2.2 60'. My friend ran a 14.7 with i/y/e and he's a not so good driver. He walks me pretty good off a roll but only managed to run the same 1/4 mile time as me. Yes I am a good driver (not to sound full of myself).

I am not saying you are wrong. I am saying the people who were telling me that might be mistaken. I would tend to agree with you on the .3 bit for the y-pipe.
