Weight reduction

I just purchased my 00 Gray Lustre SE recently and actually took it to the track. The times were way off of what I expected but I think the MAF is gone as well as a few other probs. Anyways out of curiosity and the fact that I will be testing pretty extensively during modding (hopefully) I stripped the car and went to weigh in at a local landfill. Here's the cars weight with an 1/8 of a tank and no driver....yep, that's 2900 lbs on the dot!

I was also curious if anyone else has done weight reduction and actually been on a scale. Let me know what some of the lowest weights are. Post your weights.

I have A/C and power steering removed. The VQ35 also weights 35 lbs less than the 3.0L. With nothing in the trunk (spare and jack removed), the car weights 2840-2860 (depending on which scale you believe, but it's around 2850). A little over 3000 lbs with me in it.

That is with sunroof, ABS, heated seats, and full interior, absolutely nothing removed. All the weight reduction is engine bay/trunk (trunk is for track only, otherwise it weights 2890-2910).

I weighed in at 2890lbs without me in the car. I've removed over 400lbs since my car was stock. I haven't removed the door and ceiling panels and some dash components yet. But I'm sure I will one day.

Why do you still have sound deadening?

there is no sound deadening, that is all stock stuff. Well I guess there is stock sound suppression still in the car but my eventual plans are to completely cover the interior with some sort of dynamat or the equivelant. I am probably going to go down the audio road vs. the performance road after some intial bolt-ons. I was just interested in stock #'s.

Yeah, I meant the OEM sound deadening material.

Krismax did you take the sound deadening out?

I think I can lower mine to 2780 with sound deadening and full interior (I don't want to touch the passenger cabin for now. Nice and comfy). Since I only weight 157 lbs, that would put raceweight at 2937, which is pretty damn light for a 4 door grocery getter. If I took out only pass seat for race days, that'd be under 2900, me included.

yes sound deadening all gone and undercoating to but i was disapointed because that only weighed like 5 lbs believe it or not and the resin i put back was like 4 lbs

sad thing also is my weight reduction pretty much is to make up for my weight i weight about 255lbs

Problem is, my SE has heated seats, sunroof and ABS.

How much do you weight and what had you done for weight reduction? I remember you had a CF hood and coilovers I think.

Bumper supports weight no more than 20 pounds. Hardly worth it.

Well in that condition it was CF hood, coilovers, ypipe, light wheels (millenia fronts and koseis in the back i think) removed spare removed jack removed rear seat bottom removed floor mats and trunk mat. That's all i can think of that actually reduced the weight of the car. But it also had some things that increase weight as well including strut bars, stillen RSB, subframe connectors, etc. So it would be like 50lbs lighter probably if I didn't have those things. It had stock catback at the time. It wasn't that light when I ran my best times. I hit a deer and that destroyed my CF hood almost exactly a year to the day before I ran my best times. When I ran my best times it was about 2980, 1/4 tank, me in it. I weigh 145lbs im a skinny bastard.

Oh also stupid stuff like brake dust shields removed and exhaust heat shields removed but that wasn't done for weight reduction, that was done for rotor cooling on the road course and my exhaust heat shields were rattling like crazy. Those sheet metal things only probably weigh 8lbs all together anyways.

My 95 GXE is 3020 with me in it, 1/4 tank. No weight reduction besides spare and jack and missing grille and turn signal. Spoiler and bose added.

Jime shaved 23 lbs by removing his front and rear bumper supports on his 2K2 Maxima.

I removed mine on my 1992 Maxima and shaved 68lbs! VERY worth it just for the track. But wouldn't recommend driving around like that on the street.

you want all the weight you can keep on the nose of these cars if you're drag racing. the benefits in traction off the line make up for the loss in acceleration at the far end.

In my experience and all my track programs say that 70-80 lbs will add one tenth to your 1/4 mile time. For heavier cars, 3500lb+, then it's more like for every 100lbs you remove, you shave a tenth. For 2000lb Civics, they can remove only 40 lbs and can shave a tenth. It's all relative. But for you and your Maxima, if you remove 75 lbs, you will shave a tenth.

glad to see that this post got some input rollin around. You should definetly shave about a tenth of a sec. with between 75 and 100 lbs dropped. For me its more like 100 lbs but for all you 4g's its prob. closer to 75 lbs.

Your spare and jack are one of the biggest ways to reduce weight. Aside from the passenger seat I think this is the next heaviest thing you can remove. Keep in mind that this is solely for running at the track and not daily driving though. If you catch a flat to/from the track then you got some luck, but still, hopefully you've got some friends that can always run to grab the spare. No biggie!

When I delivered pizza I was known to eat messup pizzas all night while driving, and take home a large and eat it in a single sitting. I eat a ton. My metabolism is just fast as hell Most people I hang around alot are like "jesus you are eating again?"

Damn bro, I am approaching a solid 75 lbs. on you. That's... a tenth of a second in your fourth gens!. I would have to have my girl drive to meet those weights!

C'mon now. I would kill to have a fourth gen when discussing weight reduction. Don't be scared to pull your pass. seat...it's four measly bolts, and the rear bench, spare, and jack can all be pulled by hand.

I'm 135-140 right now. Being as light as a jockey really helps my track times.
