bogging off the line

Well it was my third time at the track a few weeks ago and it was my first run with the jwt ecu and r compound tires. The problem is my times sucked last time i ran a 15.1/91 on crappy street tires with a 2.2 60 foot this time i ran a 15.1/93 with a 2.4 60 foot and the jwt ecu and r compound tires and lighter rims. The car kept bogging of the line i tryed launching at 3 then at 4 and then slipping it out at 3 but each time it bogged off the line. The track temp this time was 110 it was real hot and muggy but i still should have atleast improved a little. So my question is how do i prevent the bogging, how do some of you launch, and would the temp affect my times that bad?

I seem to have a similar problem. I think it just takes lots of practice, especially with the Fidanza. I usually either bog some or spin too much. I tend to launch hard (almost a dump) at about 2500-3000 rpm and it starts to spin, then I let off just enough for it to grab. My 60-foot times still kind of suck and I still need more practice.

If you have very sticky tires (I am assuming you have slicks or drag radials) you should heat them up in the water box and get plenty of grip. You should also be able to launch a lot harder than I do with my almost bald z rated tires. You should find a safe place to practice a few launches and see where the "sweet spot" is.

I think the slower times and any lack of power you may have felt came from it being that hot and muggy. I think with the mods you have at the track I go to, you would be comparable or faster than I am, probably faster with the JWT and sticky tires.

Your bogging probably has nothing to do with the temperature. Your car is faster now as evidenced by the increase in trap speed. Your car has a 14.8 in it right now if you can launch it better.

Yes temp will affect the power your car puts out, but in this case it was your launch that screwed your time up, not the temp so much.

i agree with neal, if you get the rpms out of whack from a bad launch the car struggles along compared to a good launch off the line, where the car is just perfectly accel, through the gears.

yeah i guess i need a little practice its just discouraging that i know the car is capable of much better times and to find i spend all this money on the car and i get spanked by cars i know i should be beating

i understand that, losing to a car you would or shoulda beat is a lame deal. with some practice you will be screaming off the line in that bad maxima of yours !

Your timing of clutch release and throttle is off. Error more on the side of throttle and pop the clutch a little harder.

Neal is right about the bogging. It has to do with the driver.

Actually, with the mods he has (same as mine + ECU and sticky tires), mid 14s (or lower?) should be easy. Of course, that would be with a good launch

I think the heat/humidity had some impact on your times, but a good launch still should have put you in the 14s.

Cliffy, didn't you already run a 14.6? I think he might have a low 14 with the ecu and tires. The ecu made a big difference in the lowend on my VE. I can spin the tires if I just ease off the clutch at a normal rpm then just stomp on the gas.

14.8 (look in my sig) but I had tires that were too small on my Centerlines (the ones that I bought them with) and I had to shift into 4th gear. I think with the right size tires that could grip worth a damn, I could see a little bit lower times. I am going again Sept 10, but I will have my stock H rated tires on the sawblades.

If you ever get rid of your car, make sure to offer me the ECU. I have a spare 5-speed one, so no downtime for either party
