Heres the only way to race your auto.
First of all shallow stage. What i mean by this is when staging stage as far back as you possibly can. This will allow you to get some momentum before the time actually starts.
Start in first gear and lightly press the brake with your left foot while at idle just so you don't move. When the pre green light lights light your left foot of the brake and then floor it with your right foot at the same time.
You will want to shift into 2nd at redline. Make sure you have a good idea of when redline is since the gauge isn't the most accurate. I listen to the engine to know when redline is.
Since you are in second now shift into third as soon as you can to allow the auto to shift into third on it's own since it will do so at the least rpms. You don't want to shift yourself since you won't be making any power that high in the rpms in second.

I do have a timeslip to back my method up. 14.4@97 in my na 96 auto

My "somewhat" stock time i ran with my auto max was a 15.5, I had a aftermarket cone filter and aftermarket muffler. I remember someone on here ran a 15.2 on a stock 4th gen max.

Do the 5spd swap, it will be your best friend, or you can get some nitrous and run a 12.6 in your stock auto like Jime.
Of course it doesn't make your car faster, but it will affect your launch, which then will affect your ET.

THE MAN FANATIC!

I'll try that out and hopefully post a decent timeslip. BTW mate - What's your kerb weight when you're stripped down for the track? Are you under 3,100lbs with you sitting inside?

Cheers Fanatic,

With the catback on you can add about 2 tenths to my time.I don't think i have any slips with no weight reduction.

You're under 2,700lbs? Wow. What haven't you got that a stock SE gets fanatic - so you've striped out the seats, floormats, spare, A/C, Stereo, carpet...am I right? Serious weight reduction.

What is 100lbs worth in 1/4 times?

Thanks dude - excellent site. Planning to strip out passenger seat, back seats, floormats, interior handles, spare, jack etc. - hoping for about 200lbs in weight reduction over stock. Unfortunately - I'm 255lbs so that's not so good.

I have stripped pretty much everything in that car.Seats,ac,heater, carpet stereo, air bags. they say about a tenth for every 100lbs or around that. This car is going to be put back togethor though. I have another maxima that will be my new drag car. The other car was just to nice to start cutting into the metal. My goal for the new one is under 2000lbs but it will be totally stripped. No power windows, windshield wipers, cruise control, sunroof, no abs.

At the weight of the maxima it only takes about 75 lbs to shave off a tenth. The 100 lbs=0.1 rule is for 3500 f-bodies and such.

Thanks Claw/Fanatic.

Excited like a little child waiting for Christmas, waiting for the race meet...I'm going to have my 180k (about 112,000 mile) service, full auto transmission flush and perhaps put in NGK Platinum plugs that Caesar highly recommends early next week (last week before Christmas...wow, where has the year gone?).

Then strip about 200 - 220lbs out of the car and kick a.s.s..

Your help's really appreciated guys.
