95 Eclpise GSX auto V. 95 Max SE 5sp

Kid at work keeps talking trash that his bone stock automatic 95 GSX eclpise will walk my max. What do you guys think?

My mods: ran 9.79 in the 1/8th with stock cat back, bad ks, and cylinder 5 misfire (problems have been corrected)

Headers/Y
Cat delete
Power steering delete
CAI
Underdrive Pulley
2.5" exhaust
Borla straight through muffler
Ported/gasket matched upper/Lower IM
VLSD tranny

running stock 15" buzzsaws

Oh yeah and there will be some cash on the line. He said he'd race for titles.

If he is indeed stock, he doesn't have a chance. "Stock" is a word with varying definitions to various people though. Anyhow, 9.79 in the 1/8th is 15.1-15.3 in the 1/4, and that's faster than a stock auto GSX is going to go. The autos are dogs, and they don't get the benefit of hard launches like the 5spds do.

I think you've got some work to do on your own car or launching abilities though because 15.1-15.3 with your mods is pretty sad, but if you had a bad KS then that explains it. Keep practicing and you'll definately get quicker bro BTW what was your 60' and trap speed on your 9.79 run.

I know my 60' was 2.2 and I was also running on 18" chrome wheels. Ill have to dig up the slips to find the trap speed. Im sure with the lighter wheels, good KS, and the exhaust Ill walk him. thanks

edit: that was also before the VLSD so I should be able to improve on the 60' time as well.

The VLSD won't help much if at all, for your 60'.

this might be a little off topic...but does the HLSD for the 6spd trannys do any good either? as far as 60ft times & traction are concerned

I'm not sure, but for 4th gens people with LSD cannot pull any better 60' times than people with open diffs.

Look over the car closely, make sure that there is no manual boost controller hidden anywhere, no laughing gas installed and the car is indeed fully stock. Friend of mine had a Auto DSM before also, and my 00 Altima auto could stay head to head with it in a 0-70MPH race, and the Altima has bumped timing, and K&N drop in for mods.

Difficulty to build boost upon take off, coupled with tall gears is what holds a STOCK GSX back.

hmmmm..i guess I was wrong about the lsd ( oh well **** happens)....but yes the GSX is completely stock ive checked it out. no gas, no controller, stock hubcaps, no weight reduction, and altezza tail lights. We were supposed to race tonite for $100, I went to meet him and he no show'd, called and he didn't answer the phone.

By the time he gets off the line you should be a car lenght ahead, by the time his T25 spools up (if it still works that is) you should be another car lenght ahead, by the time he reaches 60MPH your car should be doing 80MPH without any problem. I ran a Eagle Summit Wagon AWD with JDM Galant VR4 drivetrain swap, and no exhaust system, 5spd. Even with a redline launch it sounded like, it got its azz waxed by my slow 3.0L. I don't bother with DSMs around here unless they got some serious mods, they are turds on the highway with their stock turbos no matter what kinda mods they got.

Was it maroon color with an AMS sticker on it maybe?

Yep, thats the car. Looks and sounds bad. I never thought much of it till I seen it race a Golf 1.8T infront of me at the lights, when he crusied by me I thought it was just some beatter with a busted azz exhaust system. Any idea what the thing runs ? Didn't seem too fast from my encounter with it one time, the 2nd time he wasn't trying to run me again. I seen him around some meets, but never really talked to him nor did they ever come around.

BTW next drag racing season, I need a favor- run my saloon down the 1320 for me, I can't run consistantly, one time the car launches and runs like a rocket, next time I bog it down or spin too much- my 60' are just terrible.

Yeah I've seen it at the track... a friend of mine is friends with some of the AMS guys. It wasn't fast, but that will probably change. I think I might have it on video actually, iirc it went like mid-high 14s at maybe 96-97ish. I'm pretty sure it was in that ballpark. I'll ask my buddy tomorrow if he has it on video tomorrow if you want. I think there was a pass where my buddy raced it at GLD so I videotaped it on his camera.

Is your Q (I assume that's what you are talking about) going to be a manual or is it going to stay auto? I'll run it for you if we are at the track on the same day some time.
