Anyone here truly compete on the NDRA circuit?
I question because I have info that may interest everyone...
STARTING this year they are allowing or making a special class for FWD V6 and straight 6. My friend Ali Afshar and Karl Martin were telling me about it to see if I would be interested in competing this year in that bracket...
I am not sure about all the details but I will find out as the rules and classes are made for the year. This could be fun and a great challenge!
Anyone have any input or interest?
I also have one more thing up my sleeve that would be of GREAT interest to ALL SERIOUS racers....
It's a gear set; DOG BOX for those who strictly race. The guy that builds them is out of Canada and what he does is AMAZING! I was seeing if there was any interest because I was going to have him custom make a set for maxima's, but he needs a minimum order of 5 to cover the tooling and testing costs. I will probably need 2 so I was looking to see if anyone else would be SERIOUS about it. This would be great for NA or Boosted. Here is the damage: Each set is $5,000.00 a piece, that's why I say it's for those who strictly race. I can get more info for anyone who is. Just an idea.

If i had all the time and money i probably would of been in the NDRA circuit, and be very much interested in a V6/str8 6 class, but unfortunantly i don't have either time and money. It would be nice to see fully dragged out FWD V6 and straight 6s out at the strip tho. Maximas, Accords, frankinstein Sentra's and civics, etc. Now that would be nuts.
I agree. I have been saving for awhile to join the circuit, I hope this is my year. If not I am doing the West coast brackets for my maxima's specs until I can compete nationwide. I just wanted to see if anyone else was pushing to compete.
I do a lot of bracket racing at my local track and in addition to others there are 10 NDRA events. If I ever compete in a heads up class it will be Super Street All Motor.

How do you do at your local brackets?
I am curious to see how I come out this year- having a 5 speed and all. My buddy wins every year with a 1992 Taurus that runs a 22.1. His other REAL race car is a 93 RX-7 he pro races @ 9.8 here in UT.
I do ok. I won about 1000$'s worth and a few trophies this year in the street class. Slow, automatic cars do well in bracket racing because they are immensely consistant. That's why the best maxima to race would be a stock 89-94 VG auto. But that wouldn't be very exiting.
Next year I will race in the Semi-Pro class. Mostly V8 RWD guys running anywhere from 10.00 to 13.49. That is what Jime does with his auto 2k2 and he is very succesful.

Yes, I am very curious to see how constant I can keep my R/T and times down the track with each of my cars. It will be good practice and if nothing else great way to spend time.
Nice job on your local brackets. I am trying to get my brother to do them since he has an auto but he thinks the car has to be fast... he won't listen to me when I tell him is is competing against his own time and skill. Oh well.
Good luck this year! You going to Maxxus '06 and hitting the track?

A. What bracket racing is and how it's done.
B. They think of "racing" and winning being the fastest car.
I go to the track and see people stunned when the slow car keeps moving onto the next round and they say--- "But the other car beat them down the track?"
Yours is a manual right?
Stress (pressure, or whatever you wanna call it) is a big part of the fun IMO. Give you an example:

I'm in the lanes and the tech handpicks my name, points to me, then handpicks another and points to the Black 4th gen firebird with wheelie bars close to me. We both pull into the burnout area. They let the two mustangs in front run and then it's our turn.
He does this huge burnout while I just do a 2-second one to clean my street tires then pull to the staging area. At this point I'm really, really nervous, heart beating and all. The stages were packed on both sides and there were tons of spectators. Yellows go down and I floor it gradually on the last one. The green does go on, which is a huge relief but I'm not sure I pulled a good R/T. The tires do not break loose, which is also a relief.
I shift into second and pass the tree and the 60' area but the guy still hasn't left the line and I can hear his throttle stop like he's banging off the rev limiter. At this point I'm almost out of second gear then I look up in my mirror and I see him pull his wheels fully 3 feet off the ground.
I shift into 3rd and see him land and then he's tracking me down real fast. Just seeing this thing get bigger and bigger in your mirror is a one of a kind feeling and by 1/8 mile mark I'm really not sure if he catches up or not before the line. I don't think I've ever mashed the pedal to the floor this hard ever.
Shift 4th and he's real close pulling maybe one car length a second. He finally passes me and slams on the brakes and I'm not sure whether he went under or won. That was the last bracket race I did this year and it really stuck in my mind. I lost by 6 hundreds but we were both 0.01 above our dial-ins. Was lots of fun though.

He he sounds exciting. Nice story... I love those kind of thrills - makes the race exciting. I race my buddies Supra and I love it cause I always beat him off the line then hang until the end of second and right as I shift into third...................... he's GONE! He laughs everytime that I kill him off the line and through 2nd. Then he states, " I am scared for this thing to get boosted." I laugh an tell him he'll just have to do more mods to keep up....
I enjoy bracket racing but haven't done a lot to this point as I've only had the Max 1.5 yrs or so and I've been making too many changes and am still in the midst of tuning/working towards getting my setup where I want it... so at season's end I was way too inconsistent to make it worth the additional entry fee, just doing a few test and tune days. It'll be more of the same come spring until I get things all straightened out and get a degree of consistency. I also have mechanical problems that need fixing, wheel bearings being at the top of that list. But eventually I'll get more into the bracket events.
BTW JClaw's story got me thinking that I'd rather run from behind in a bracket (ie. be the slower car), easier to judge the overtake etc I think rather than having to use the mirrors... Of course, even then you can still go under your dial-in. lol

Yeah I almost got a heart attack when I saw this thing pull the front end so high off the ground I saw the driveshaft spinning under the car. But the funny thing is, in the time trials I ran against this guy twice and beat him at the tree both times. If I had pulled a better RT (like .017 and .004 the previous times I ran him) I would've won.
Just picture this guy, who had a huge closed trailer and camped for the entire weekened, with his 10-second firebird loosing to a stocko-looking maxima in the brackets. Isn't that much more rewarding than beating 15-second civics in the street class?

Hell, I've raced an 8 sec dragster a couple times. After that you're not afraid to line up against anyone. It can't get much worse than that! lol. Not to mention numerous 9 and 10 sec Rustangs, Camaros etc etc.

I spend all day working, with my cars or at the stables... you'd never see me...
Sorry to change the subject of the post, I was mezmerized. Did NDRA ever mention when the rules for the class would be posted. If I can ever find a Quafe diff, I might think about racing. Tax season is coming up so it will be April before I can think about any changes. I would love to get a dogbox, but That might be a pain in the a$$ to drive in a street car.
