First Time at The Track

I was just woundering if any of you guys could give me a few pointers on how to get a better time. I have a 97 5sp with budget y-pipe and cattman cattback so I was hoping to get very low 15's or a very high 14. my two best slips were:
Reaction---.8
60 ft----- 2.3828
330 ft---- 6.57
ET @ 594 ft -- 9.3618
1/8 ET----- 9.9849
1/8 MPH---- 72.21
1/4 ET---- 15.3579
1/4 MPH---- 92.20

Second best run:
Reaction---- 1.2407
60 ft---- 2.3222
330ft---- 6.5243
ET @ 594 ft-- 9.3323
1/8 Et---- 9.9613
1/8 MPH---- 71.53
1/4 ET---- 15.3812
1/4 MPH--- 91.63

I was launchin at about 2000-2500 RPM and poped the cluch and did not drag it. I redlined first to second and shifted alittle before redline from second to third and did not need to shift into fourth is there any thing i should be doing differently to get a better time because i thought I should have done better any comments appreciated.

With a ypipe you should be around 15.0-14.8 range. Did you do any kind of wieght reduction? Also what kind of rims and tires were you on? Also try cleaning your your throttle body before the next time you go if you havent already.

I think for those mods you could be trapping higher. Did you let the car cool down in between runs? Heat soak will kill your power. Also, what size rims and tires are you using that you don't need to shift to 4th?

And make sure no ghost KS codes are being thrown...

And of course if you can lower the 60' it'll help too

Thanks for the replies. Next time I will let the car cool down between runs. But how do you clean the throttle body is it in the stickys? I am on stock rims and all season street tires. And I had no weight reduction, my interior is leather if that makes a difference. My cel light is always on because of my exhaust. The EGR valve does not detect enough back presure so it thinks some thing is wrong I gues. This is what my mechanic says, he took a day to look at it and this was his conclusion, I have never heard of this have any of you guys? so I decided to check my codes for a gost knock sensor code like dandymax said and shure enough it came up. I also got a three way catalyst (right Bank) can any one tell me what that one is and if that and the knock sensor could be slowing me down?

Can I put the knock sensor on my self? I dont want to spend the money on a mechanic and I know were it is and it looks like I could reach it with my hands but there are a bunch of wires that are kindof bunched up and get in the way and there not in the pictures in my Hayens manuel. And is ebay a good place to buy a KS cause I cant spend $160 right now but I dont know if I should trust ebay or not seems to risky? And does any one know about the 3 way catalyist?

Temperature and humidity can have a huge affect on trap speed. I would work on that 60' time though. You can easily shave a couple of tenths right there.

u can replace it yourself, its not THAT hard, although it is a pain in the azz to do..160 seems kinda high, try checking the group deal forum, i remember some nissan dealer site had them for 120 when i bought mine for my old maxima.

if you're throwing a KS code, do you have to change it or can you temporarily reset the ecu?
