Another 12 second all-motor maxima...

I have been waiting on cooler weather to go the track, but decided to go ahead and give it a shot yesterday anyway. Temp was in the mid 80's in Alabama. I was afraid to launch too hard on the slicks being 2 hours away from home on a Sunday afternoon. The slip is at home, I will scan it later, but it was basically a 1.9 60ft time, 12.9@106mph. All my runs were 13.0's with 2.0 60ft times, and then I launched a little harder on the last run.

It gives me some good hope for cooler weather and harder launching. I think it will go 12.6's this fall, if I don't move on to bigger and better things first.

Very nice! I knew you'd get there sooner or later. What rpm did you launch at?

I was launching around 2500-3000rpm. I think I gained more from the gearing help (24.5 inch slicks) that from the slightly better launching ability. On the street tires (basically 26 inch), I hit the rev limiter right before the line and it hurts times. Now I get to shift into 4th before the line.

Nice work. Launch harder If mardigras is not breaking launching at 22psi and a 125shot, you're not going to break. 1st and 2nd gear in our cars are pretty decently sized.

Bring a spare driver side axle. That's pretty much the only thing that might break. I dead hooked a 6500 clutch dump with 23 inch slicks. Granted you have alot more topend power but you also have 24.5" slicks. Mardi was able to pull a 1.71 with the same sized slicks on 7" wheels.

They say the best launch rpm is peak torque so you don't have to "climb the mountain". I'd try a 5000 dump after a good burnout.

He probably just means it's becoming more common now. And I see his point; you didn't even have to launch the thing hard to pull a 12.9. It's looking like you could pull a mid 12 without even fine tuning the engine with the E-U or such. I knew 4.5 gens would keep surprising people with their potential.

congrats matt!
I have 2 questions
what do you think you would be trapping on street tires?
how much do you think the 3.5 swap took off your previous best 3.0 ET?

If I recall you were hitting a 13.7@103 with a 2.1 60' on a nice cool day. so maybe 7 tenths?

I trapped right at 106 mph in cooler weather on street tires, and that was having to shift to 4th right at the line. On a 2.1 60 ft time now, I would imagine a low 13. I guess the 3.5 would be around 5-6 tenths as of now. Don't forget I have yet to run the 3.5 in cold weather. It was already fairly warm this spring when I got it done.

That would require a 1.6 60'. Although it's possible to pull in a FWD car it's a lot harder to achieve than in a AWD or RWD.

how so? He will be running in 40 degree cooler weather, that paired with a mid 1.7 60' should yeild 12.5X's all day.

It's just not traction needed at that point, it also takes a good amount of power. Mardi can pull 1.7 60 foots because he's making a crapload of power. 240-250whp in a 2800lbs probably isn't going to land a 1.7 60 foot.

JClaw has already done it with less power, his car might have been a hundred pounds lighter, but 30+whp more makes up for that. Matts car makes 270whp+ so launching hard should yield 1.7's all day if the track is hooking. He11 dandymax is pulling 1.7's with a 3.0.

The car weighted about 3050 lbs with me in it. Around 2880-2890 w/o driver. I had maybe 230-235whp, tops.

I am going to go run the 1/8th mile near my house and get the launching down pat before I drive 2 hours again to the 1/4 mile track and break something. I will go again in a few more weeks when its even cooler. The car feels night and day different even now that we have cooled down pretty good at night.

You have been out of the maxima world too long. We have a guy with a 3.0 and several more with 3.5's cutting 1.7 60 ft times, and my last dyno was 273whp, not 240-250whp. That 1.91 60 ft I cut was a quick slip from around 2500 rpm, so there is definately more left in it.

Now that you live close, when are you going to Steele to run the G35?
