1/8mi 9.49 auto launching Q's and a few more

ok well i got a new personal best so far running a 9.49 i didnt expect that either, i just went to the track to have fun and mess around with some friends, i ran a week before but very inconsistant ranging from 9.8's to 9.6's with very good weather. I did all runs exept the 9.4 run with a 200something lb passenger and even then i was making 9.6's.

Ok well i did that run w/ 16" chrome rims w/ 225 tires (i had them on because my 18" wheels need new rubber) with crappy hard compound tires. But these runs were with a replaced coil and a new o2 sensor...

I was ondering what really is the best way to launch? I talked to a guy in a tibby and he told me that he has noticed his best times when he would press the brakes in with his left foot on the 1st light and give the car gas and by the time of the 3rd light let off the brakes and give it gas, i tried that but it seems im just not used to it or i completley loose all traction and just spin all the way through 1st so i was ondering should i just keep launching by just hammering the gas w/ out doing this braking technique? Btw do you guys think i might be able to get into a low 9? When i put the 18" wheels back on they are gonna have 245's and a soft compound tire, what should i lower the tire pressure to?

9.49 is moving pretty good, around 14.6 in the 1/4... Nice runs. SOrry no tips on launching an auto but seems like you're doing OK with it. What were your 60' times?

9.49 is pretty quick for an auto 5g...what mods do you have? and what was yer trap speed?

i'm not sure...but i'm kinda fishy about that ET...especially how 5g vq30's are slow becuz of their lack of tq and heavy weight....let us know your full time slip and we can see whats up

i cant find that exact timeslip... but i heard that the track is 50ft short of a full 1/8 so that probably explains the 9.4 and its only 25ft above sea lvl... I have SRI, Y pipe, B pipe, test pipe, and a working vias . Oh yeah but i did remember i had a near perfect launch .002

I do have other slips when i had the passenger in my car

.002 is your reaction time...it has nothing to do with your ET...i need to know your 60ft and your trap speed...

Beat me to it.

9.4xx is definately 14.6 territory -- look to my sig. It does sound very odd though that a 5G 3.0 auto with exhaust as a power adder is keeping up with my 4G 5MT with the same power adders. Idk...Go back and do it again!!
edit...forgot my sig didn't have 1/8th mile stats...I ran a 9.45 at 74.8 mph on my best run with a 2.213 60'

This 1/8th mile time would also put you into serious competition with Ajcool (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) who currently has a 4G auto that's running a 14.98 (is he the only one without ecu or vi to do that?).

Your reaction time isn't indicative of your launch -- a 60' time is what tells you that.

just to confirm...i am not showing hostility in my posts...if you assume there is any...i just feel fishy about the times...since i'm pretty familiar with alot of different maxima times and setups

just let us know how well the 2nd trip goes....scan a time slip for us if you can...we can help ya to determine if something is fishy about the track...or what not...timing equipment isn't always right!

btw...and avg time for a bolted on 5g auto like yours...should be running high 9's with a 2.2 60ft...you should be shooting for this time...if you "legitimately" run a a 10.5 or a 9.5....then there is SOME variable involved...example

if you run a 10.5 but have a 2.5 60ft...then that makes sense...but if you run a 9.5 with a 2.5 60ft...then something is definitely wrong....theres also variables with trap speed and such...

just let me know how it goes on the 2nd trip...i should be able to analyze your slip pretty well...to know if its legitimate or not...

hey, steve88!
Don't get too fired up about this.
Remember not all Maximas are created equal.
For ex, some 4th gen auto in this forum ran a 15.1 with just an intake.
There could always be anomaly.
I do understand you because there are some bs's going on here.
Peace.

STEVEN!!! please don't yell, or type in caps. take a deep breath

haha
It's funny since the previous post is you saying that you're not being hostile.

chopstix -- if you have a timeslip for your best run, post it up. I'm interested to see what you're running for all the other times, especially your 60'. Good luck at the track next, it's hard to stop racing once you get a taste!!
One thing about your race against the chevelle -- there's a thing called "redlighting", where if you leave too early, it awards the win to the opposing racer, no matter what time is run. Leaving too early on your track would be having a reaction time of under .000. Hopefully that makes sense, I'm burnt out from finals week, time for another redbull.
