first time at the track
Took my 100% stock 2002 6-speed to the track tonight, and this was my first time at the track ever (in any car). I figured I wouldn't even be able to break into the 14s because I'm a horrible driver. I tried practicing my launches the other day and either bogged the car or had insane amounts of wheelhop
anyway, here was my first run of the night: (sorry scanner didnt' really show the slips clear enough)
R/T: .649
60': 2.300
330: 6.181
1/8: 9.345
MPH: 78.23
1000: 12.043
1/4: 14.338
MPH: 98.27
Not bad for my first run ever, right!? I figured I would just improve tonight, but I would soon find out how wrong that would be...
Second run...wow this was a bad one...first I completely bogged it coming off the line...I mean, it took a long while for me to even start moving. The wheel hop was so bad that my windshield wipers turned on! And then I missed third...
R/T: .121
60': 2.610 <<HOLY CRAP!
330: 6.522
1/8: 9.692
MPH: 78.12
1000: 12.393
1/4: 14.688
MPH: 98.29
Third run...this was even worse than the last. I acutally bucked the car coming off the line, then I spun the tires so hard in first gear that my front end slid to the left at least 2 feet...traction in second gear wasn't much better, I basically spun half way through it and spun for about 3 seconds going into third gear...
R/T: .389
60': 2.603
330: 6.865
1/8: 10.088
MPH: 76.66
1000: 12.828
1/4: 15.150 (ouch..)
MPH: 96.81
Fourth run: again spun all the way through first and half way through second...got some pretty bad wheel hop in first
R/T: .336
60': 2.485
330: 6.392
1/8: 9.545
MPH: 78.13
1000: 12.244
1/4: 14.545
MPH: 97.90
Fifth run: had traction issues again
R/T: .405
60': 2.624
330: 6.537
1/8: 9.702
MPH: 77.90
1000: 12.412
1/4: 14.715
MPH: 97.83
Final run: had a bit of wheel hop, but this time the tires hooked pretty well throughout first second and third gears.
R/T: .459
60': 2.326
330: 6.237
1/8: 9.401
MPH: 77.75
1000: 12.114
1/4: 14.427
MPH: 97.42
Overall it wasn't too bad for my first time. I have terrible tires (do not get falken 512's..they're horrible once you put 20k miles on them..) and I need to get some ES motor mounts...There's always a next time! I'm aiming for a 14.2 ... I know it can be done.

wow pretty good times considering your first time at the track. Dont feel bad about them you should have seen my first time, in a 383 stroker gutted 81 camaro drag car with m/t slicks and 3000rpm stall tq converter, i managed a 2.1 60ft and a 14.6 1/4 mile hahha.
14.3@98 is a really good time, i hope next time i hit the track in my car i want to be able to pull off mid 14's.

Collin, I come to think it's your tires, too. I just happen to think somehow your tires sucked badly. I remember I was chirping 3rd gear with my 3.0 setup just because the tires are pretty bad grips. Switching to better tires will definitely help you with 60' and stop chirping on 3rd.
I couldn't chirp third on my Nitto N450 tires. And these tires weigh 9.7lbs/pc. Time to think about getting these, they grip awsome, if without wheel hop issues, of course.
Good times by the way.

And thanks for the comment, Glude! I'm sure you could pull a 98 mph trap pretty easily if you're a 6-speed
