im looking for 2 very light 16 inch rims that I could put on the front of my car when I go to the track. also what are some very good tires to use at the track on the 16 inch rims.

you may want to check and see if you can strap on a set of 15" steel rims from a 4th gen. You can get them at the junk yard for $25 a piece and then wrap them with some nice drag radials or slicks for around $100 each. Spend your money on tires and don't worry about the rims. I'm pretty sure the steelies weigh in at 18lbs. each for just the rim.

16x7 SSR Type C. they are a little pricey but weigh in at like 12 lb per wheel.

Another option is Z32 rims. The normal non-turbo wheels are 16x7.5". You can get them for cheap if you look around. They weigh 16.0lbs (lighter than the factory 15" sawblades). I have one pair in my garage if you are insterested. Im trying to get rid of them, they're taking up space and mom is *****ing wned:. Not bent, balanced, wrapped with 225/50ZR-16 Fusion ZRi (about 60% life left on them). PM me if you're interested, I'll sell them cheap since they got to go

You can get some 16x4 RX7 wheels. They are only 11lbs. That's what I use.

Exactly. Less rolling area and lighter weight means faster times. It's negligible on the rear, but lighter on the front makes a big difference.

Yeah, they are for the rear skinnies that I use for the track. They work GREAT with the 9 pound Metzeler motorcycle tires I mounted.



It makes for a VERY light setup giving me the least amount of rolling resistance. The RX7 guys use motorcycle tires up front all the time. I originally got the idea from Jime to use motorcycle tires on the RX7 spare wheel. I found that the latest generation RX7 has the lightest spare wheel. But they are all light since they aren't made of steel.

I don't have any real numbers on how much it helps in the 1/4 mile. But I know it doesn't hurt! And it's a nice weight savings compared to the 38lb 17" wheel/tire setup I have.

300zx's use that same type of spare wheel. spacesaver alloys=light!!

They are from the 2000 millenia type S. They are 16"x6.5 and same lug pattern as a 4th gen maxima. They each weighed 17.4 lbs barebone, and I coupled them with the Nitto NT450 tires each weighing 9.9 lbs. Coupled together, it's around 27 lbs race weight.

I paid 200 dorrars for a set of wheels and 88 dorrars per each Nitto tires. The combo is a readily scorching grenadar grips on the track. These tires never slipped on the track, but they are so stickie that they stick and bounce a couple times before a firm grip. On the streets, they can grip very good and maintain great wet traction. It's my daily tires plus occational track use.

Here's a few stats:
1995 Millenia 15" rims are 11 lbs each, w/street tires=23-25 lbs
95-99 15" steelies with tire weighed about 36 lbs
95-99 SE 16" rims are 19.6 lbs each, w/my Nitto tires is 29.5 lbs (not bad at all)
My 16" 2000 Millenia wheels combo weighed 27 lbs each
My 17" NEX OPT-6 rims with tire weighed 48 lbs each

For me, it's great race tire weight plus daily driving. And they are 16" and doesn't look bad at all on the streets.

For the money, you can't go wrong with the stock steelies. Of course if you could find a pair of Millenia wheels, those are super light.

What size Nitto do you have that weighs 9.9lbs?

The lightest tire I could find is the Toyo T1-S, which was around 21lbs for 225/45R17. Are you absolutely sure your tire weighs 9.9lbs? If so, that is much lighter than tiny 22" drag slicks which have no cords. My drag setup is an 11lb Millenia wheel with a 14lb 22" MT Slick for a race weight of 25lbs. My street setup is a 16lb 17" wheel with a 22lb tire.

I could not find weight numbers on the Nitto tires on the internet. Thanks for any info.

These are NT450 225/50-R16's. They were 88 bucks each when I bought them last year, now the price had dropped to 78. Good deal.

This is the exact website I got my tires from. At first, I heard of these tires being light, but not sure just how much. So when the shipment tracking info came down, it was showing 20 lbs per package, and there were 2 packages. When the tires arrived at my door, it was wrapped 2 tires per each package, thus about 10 lbs each. I then took the tires out of the wraps and weighed them individually on my scale, it showed 9.9 lbs each. Yes, it is true, I am not BS-ing you guys. I read some reviews, they all said these tires are light, just that they never said how much. I helped a millions by weighing these tires. You should look into these tires, too.

Thanks. I still don't understand how this can be possible for a radial to be this light. The Dunlop motorcycle tire I started with was about 18lbs in a 16" tire. But then I found a Metzeler, which makes the lightest motorcycle tires and that was 9lbs.

I thought slicks were the lightest tires possible since they aren't radials and don't have the cords and reinforcement that street tires have.

Do you have any ideas how the 450s can be this light? Do you know anything about the NeoGens? Are they just as light?

I'm not sure of the NeoGen's. But these NT450's are made of synthetic thermoset rubbers. The steel belt linings are lightened, annealed steel. The combination was to get it as light as possible while keeping a great traction pattern. It's a winner for being all season, daily drive, track use, and cost effective tire.

The first time I heard of anyone using these tires are some Honda guys looking for lightweight solutions and came across this. Go for it.
