Active or Interested Maxima Drag Racers Chime In

Hey Guys,

Its been a long time since ive been around these parts, had a bit of a setback with the chariot but she is good as gold now, breaking in a new clutch, sucessful DE-K swap. Need to upgrade my suspension, and grab a new battery. I thought I was ready to go then start hearing a big clunk from the suspension, front drivers side.

I'll be ready for more racing when the season starts up here in New Zealand.

Anyways, I wanted to see what old members were still hanging around and racing, and meet some of the new guys that were racing maximas.

Feel free to chime in with your times, mods, plans etc. Good to meet ya and hope to hear from some OG members as well !!

cheers
ceasar

p.s. im still full of newb questions, like if i go with coilovers, will i need to replace my strut mounts ? I have a 1997 model maxima and im still rolling on the originals !

Hey Ceasar been a while. Racers are a rare breed in the Maxima camp. A few Test & Tuners, but racers are rare.

Had 2 races so far this season, won the 1st and runner up last weekend. Sunday is the first big event where I race the 11.50 and 13.0 index events which I won both series last year so lots of guys trying to kick my butt.

Yeah you're right Jime.

I would like to actually race, but it would be a waste of my time/money. My stick-shift/nitrous car would not be consistent AT ALL. Consistency wins races...

its great to hear from you guys. i had to park the maxima, and had family to look after. Its glad to see the maxima love and to see some of us are still holding on to our cars. Its been a long time especially for the A32.

Winter is the offseason here so im happy about having plenty of time to get thigns sorted and hitting the track once again.

i'm still here. was thinking about running tomorrow but decided against it since i'd have to drive 1.5 hours opposite direction of track to get the slicks, and then 3 hours back the other way to track, and then 1.5 hours home again. so i'm just going to watch my buddy and take my GF to the track for the first time.

I'm a newbie in this, a young apprentice but so far loving it and sticking to the maxis for 3 years now, and will continue racing, I went through stages last year from a bone stock 15.1 to a mildly modded 14.5 and further to 14.1,

now with summer coming around and my car finished from much much more, Im hoping for 13.5's !!

the drag maxi community here is great!

I'm a n00b on the track (lack of tire/driver mod) but I've seen your videos and your numerous threads. I'm doing a similar DE-K build (I/H/E/e-Ultimate/Fidanza, and cams/big MAF awaiting installation) Major props on your work for the Maxima community, especially from a tuning standpoint.

I race test and tune with a few Import Wars events mixed in for fun. My car was completely stock besides the intake and drop resistor mod for 3 years until this spring. Ran consistent 14.6's with that. Now my mods are slightly more extensive, and I look forward to getting to the track now that my dyno tune has been done. Hoping for 13's on street tires...If not then drag radials will be purchased.

Not an old member by any means, but I race..14.01 @ 99.77 bone stock '02 6-Speed. Looking for 13s stock, now that I got rid of my Goodyear crap tires up front, just need to get out to the track.

I'm still out there racing. I havent taken my max out in a while because its undergoing surgery lol but I've been racing my gf's 3.5 swapped max and my Z alot. My girls car has gone 13.7@100 so far. Our next step for it is tuning. We are hoping to get a low 13 second pass out of it.

It's good to hear from you again. I am trying to prep my Maxima for a couple different Street All Motor heads up classes this season. Right now, I'm only running 12.0s NA, but I am building it to hopefully see low 11s NA in the near future. I have a 4000+ high stall converter waiting to be installed. That should really help my 60 foots.

I'm going to have to fab up a chrome moly roll bar pretty soon though if I want to be able to run 11s and still race at some of these big events.

planning to go on weds to set a new best time for me/test out this z33 manifold w/spacer. its been FOREVER since I hit the track and I know its going to be interesting. Since the last time i raced ive had to put in new clutch/flywheel, gotten new 15" wheels, did the z33 manifold. gonna be fun and totally different from the last time i was there.

Hardly ever on here anymore since my maxima disappeared. At least I've still got a stock 96 maxima sitting around but that thing needs alot of work to get back to the winning ways.

Have yet to track the Celica All trac but will do soon enough.

Kinda new here but I for sure enjoy 1/4 racing. Quickest I've been able to extract from my car was a lucky 14.255@98mph with some ghetto intake that I put together from autozone parts. The NWP BOP made it worse.

I wanted to get into the 13's but its nearly impossible to launch this damn thing with sub 2.2 60fts without breaking something (which I did). Ended up busting up the rear motor mount.

I haven't been back to the track since then, but I now have an Apexi N1 2.5" catback. Scared to go back and beat on her because of the TERRIBLE wheel hop. I don't know how you guys do it.

Wow, been a WHILE since i seen the Chariot around the org! I was wondering where you ran off too haha..

I kind of disapeared for a while myself (oil pump, due to my stoopid friend missing 4th gear doing a boost run and hit 2nd). That was pretty discouraging, but i picked up a 71 510 while i was fixing the max. Sold the built LZ22+ that came in the car and dropped a DOHC KA in there with some goodies, ended up pretty much redoing the entire car, but its almost done…seems like I have been saying that for WAY too long tho haha

Never was much of a track junky even tho sac raceway is like 5 minutes from my house! I need to hit it up now that im turbo’d lol

Anyways, nice to c you back and active. I remember your name around here def being something I got used to seeing, so welcome back! 

lower front tire pressure and good bushings in your front suspension.

Solid or very stiff motor mounts will help a lot as well.
