Just Back From 1/4
Have been bored without my Z so I decided to run the Maxima again. Previous best was a 14.9@92 with my '03 AT. Only mod was a K&N drop in filter at the time. That was ~a year ago.
Recently installed the VIAS Block Off Plate and did GAB mod. I could definitely tell a difference in the upper RPM range with power so I wanted to see how measureable the difference was.
14.6@94
2.25 60'
6.2 330'
9.4 1/8 @75 MPH
12.26 1000'
14.67 1/4
93.79 MPH
Tonight temps were ~76F.
Basically a 2 MPH gain 3 tenths of a second shaved off from VIAS plate and GAB. Cost was $40? Can't complain

I'm thinking with better track conditions and a few more passes I could squeeze a 14.5 as it sits. I know the track here in San Antonio isn't the fastest in comparison some of the others out there.
Anyone have any input on how my times and trap are for my mods which are just GAB, drop in K&N filter, and VIAS block off plate?

Nice. I ran about the same in houston last month.
14.7 @94 with block plate and cone filter. 02 auto.
I felt like I can knock of a tenth or so with a little less wheel spin.
Did you just gas and go or brake torque? What rpm? Manual shift auto?

Thanks for your input!

Thanks guys! Spacer is here now so next up is Spacer install and back to the track. Hoping for as low 14's as possible and a 96+ MPH trap.
#10
I doubt spacers will help in reducing your trac times too much to be low 14's... yea maybe down to a 14.4 if that's even considered "low 14's" but nice times none the less the spacers should help you mph some
#11
Yeah I meant to get as deep into the 14's as possible. I'll be happy with a 14.4. A higher trap is always nice too. I honestly think more power is what the car needs to get lower ET's. The stock Automatic with minor bolt ons just isn't enough to get much better than a 2.2 MAYBE a 2.1 60' at best. Either way I'm hoping for a 14.4 @ 96+ next trip out.

#14
A lot of ignorant people are misinformed or confused into thinking adding a higher octane fuel adds power to the car by itself. He either thinks I though that or he is under that impression himself.
#15
Good, the car needs nothing more than pump gas, like you said.

This and the car is an auto so there's not much room for improvement. Maybe a 14.5 with a little cooler air. I've got the NWP Spacer kit I'm going to try and install in the next few weeks and then I'll take a trip back to the track to see if there's any improvement.
#21
Hurry up and get that spacer kit installed and ran at track. If you improve.. mph or times than Ill know what to get for my next mod. But if not then I'm not getting it.
From what I get from reading about it seems to help more for driveability then track #'s.
#22
I'm still expecting things to improve a little the more a I drive the car, but its definitely a noticeable gain. I really think the VIAS delete was more beneficial but then again I didn't reset my ECU with disconnecting the battery to do the VIAS install where I did with the spacer install. I'm hoping the increase in torque will help with the 60' to help net at least a 14.5 or faster and a trap of 95 MPH or higher would be nice.
#24
I can definitely tell the torque increased from 3000-5000. It helps to restore a little bit that you lose from the VIAS delete. It really helps to broaden the powerband more.

Exactly. Ya know "big gains" aren't really possible with just bolt ons on the VQ35 opposed to my VG30ET that was just a sleeping monster ready to be awakened. However, the incremental mods are noticeable and as they start to add up you suddenly find your Maxima performing quite well considering its vehicle class and price.
I'm anxious to get back to the track but its been 98+ degrees here lately and about 88 degrees at night with 80%+ humidity. Really poor track conditions to say the least. I really feel the poor weather conditions would negate the small improvements I've made thus far so I'm holding out until a cool front comes through.

Well I had a chance to head back to the track tonight guys. And considering the circumstances, I'm quite pleased.
Since the last time I ran I simply added the NWP Plenum Spacer and only 2/4 pieces at that (lower to upper and upper to neck). So, tonights track conditions were a bit worse than before. ~80F ambient temperatures and I had about a 30 minute window of cool down which my engine was still at full operating temperature and was warm to the touch. Regardless, I still managed a 14.4@95 Here's how it breaks down:
14.4@95
2.22 60'
6.1 330'
9.3 1/8 @75 MPH
12.10 1000'
14.48 1/4
95.02 MPH
I also rolled it up on the scales and the weight was 3330 lb including me. I weigh 180 lbs so that puts my car at 3150lbs 100% full weight minus the spare tire.

Just checked the DA which was about 2276'. So corrected times for DA would be:
14.1@98 MPH
I still take these numbers with a grain of salt because rarely does anyone have perfect track conditions. I plan to head back with the timing bump and the other 2 pieces of the NWP spacer installed on a cooler night and shoot for 14.2's or better.

Damn...spacers are the sht. Can't believe you are able to get such an increase. Man I'll be happy with 14.5 @ 95.

Yeah I'm happy with them. My goal was to run a 14.4 or better and I hit that the first pass. I plan to return once again when it cools down again in hopes of better times. I installed the throttle body spacer today (man was that a tight fit with the stock intake assembly) and hopefully with the 2* timing advance I can see 14.2's@96-97.

This is a cool write up. My girl is doing 14.6 @ 94mph in her 03 Max A/T with only Intake and exhaust. She now has, test pipe, block off plate, and spacers. Excited to see what she does at BAYTOWN Race track, here in Houston.
Keep us updated on the current mods and time slips. Maybe we can Schedule a Race Event in San Antonio or Baytown sometime bro!!

Nice times.....
Set up track day and I'm there!! Especially in Houston since I go that way about once a month.

Well I was back at it again last night. However, unfortunately the weather was quite poor for getting any better times and the track conditions didn't help any either. I was spinning almost entirely through the 60' all night and my car hardly ever spins. I don't think they torched the track 1 time the entire night which is not normal.
Anyway, my best run of 4 last night was this one:
2.29 60'
6.28 330'
9.56 1/8
75.60 1/8 MPH
12.39 1000'
14.79 1/4
95.79 MPH
Only change to my car was the addition of the TB spacer as I didn't have that installed last time I ran. Last night was quite humid and after applying the DA of 2905 to the times and MPH that brings the corrected ET and MPH of 14.28@99.30.
Also interestingly enough I was running with about 3 other 4th gen's that were all 5 spd and bolt ons. They were consistently running 15.0's@90-91 with 2.3-2.4 60's. One had removed rear and passenger seats and he was running 14.8's@92. He weighed on the scales at 2975 with driver (approx. 180lbs) and mine weighed 3315 lbs with driver (180 lbs).

Huh???.... fast and slow is relative, all on what you call fast, a 5.5 6MT would be in the 14.1-13's with his mods and maybe over 100mph... idk if I would call this...... "fast"
