This past weekend, our 1992 Nissan Maxima set a new world record for the Fastest All Motor Maxima in the 1/4 mile with an ET of 11.97 @ 113.3mph! The world record we've had for years just got beat again! It feels good to be the first NA Maxima to bust into the 11s!

Very cool! Your car keeps getting faster and faster. Your continued dedication to the Maxima world is why I proudly display your company's sticker on my rear bumper.

I caught that in the video too, probably a suprastick.Originally Posted by TurboA32

On this particular day, I had to manually shift since my standalone transmission control unit (Suprastick) was not receiving a speed signal. When I converted over to manual brakes, I removed all the ABS sensors, including the one I needed to create the speed signal for the Suprastick. But I have since put that sensor back in and the tranny shifts automatically now at my specified shift points.Originally Posted by TurboA32

Please subscribe to this thread to get updates. I try to touch on every single thing I do to this car. No secrets are kept! I want to see other Maximas go fast even if it means me getting beat by one of them one day.

No new records. But I learned a lot about this new Edge Racing converter. Before the day was over with, I was able to achieve a 4500rpm launch. But I had to stall it up in 2nd gear so as to not overpower the brakes. Then, kick down to 1st gear when I launch. But since I had to manually shift to do all of this, it took me a couple passes to get a hang of things. By that point, the big slick cars have stopped running and the street tire guys were chewing up the surface. So I wasn't able to hook up with the 4500rpm launch. But when I do, I think that low 1.7s will be pretty easy to do. 1.6s are my goal though.Originally Posted by t6378tp

Yes, my best time was when I manually shifted. But I only manually shifted because I absolutely had to. I had no other choice than to just go home. And manually shifting means that I am not hitting my perfect shift points every time. So, I could have shaved a half tenth or so if I was able to shift automatically with my calculated optimal shift points.Originally Posted by TurboA32

If I have a manual transmission, I would be able to lay down more power to the wheels, but it will be harder to launch consistently. Once I get some more tests under my belt, I hope to be able to repeat 1.6 60 foots every time. That's a hard thing to do with a manual transmission.

People need to realize, for drag racing, you can not beat an automatic with a manual. Have y'all seen them new transmissions that shift like superfast. GTR? BRZ? Even them fancy twin clutch DSG's. For driving pleasure you need a manual, but this is a drag car... Don't get mad at me turboa32.
I've had two auto maxima's, now have a 5spd '97 SE daily driver, and working on swapping a 6spd into my "beast" '97 gle maxipad. Keep up the good work Arron!

It depends on the car and how well the automatic is built or what's controlling the shifts. My car is most definitely faster than an automatic 6th gen with the same modifications. Originally Posted by Quickywd01

Most people can't drive a manual car to save their lives though so I would agree in almost every case lol.
Yeah, an automatic with the right torque converter can be every bit as fast as a well driven manual. But so far, that has not happened yet, not even with my car. A properly setup manual Maxima that weighs 2450lbs and is equally modded will be able to cut 1.7 60 foots all day long. And it will be able to lay down more WHP than my automatic.
What I'm hoping to do is achieve a similar 60 ft that my car would do if it was a well driven manual. But what I like is the consistency. And I haven't even found that just yet. But I'm getting close!

So here is the real question: When you gonna retune your fuel map for that nasty hole that's unloading in 3rd, maybe lengthen the injector pulse another milsecond, tune the NOS timing and run 9s?

that's awesome! can't wait to see more updates.
Is there anyway to install a transbrake setup like the big power rwd cars? I'm not familiar with that setup at all.

I'm sure there is a way, but not that I have found with this Nissan transmission. So for right now, I have to rely on the flash stall of the converter I'm using at the time. If I had a transbrake though, I'd be able to launch at a much higher rpm with the same converter!Originally Posted by grksoccerkid91

That is why I've messed around with stalling it up in 2nd gear, then kicking it down to 1st as I launch. That way, it doesn't overpower the brakes. But I would LOVE a transbrake in this car!

First hand experience, this guy shifts like a mad-man. Almost equivalent to that Mexican fella w/ the turbo max making Porsche sammiches.
