Voice Warning Box

I have a 86 max with a voice warning box. When I repacled the factory stereo system with a Pioneer setup, the " *****ing betty" stopped working. I belive that it had something to do with the factory
setup, so if anyone has the schematics for the "*****ing betty", let me know. I miss her whining.............

I have an 87 Max. I replaced the factory radio, it was a b i t ch to try to get a dash board adapter kit, and currently, I have a gaping hole where the equalizer used to be. Anyway, I replaced the radio, all the wires back there were for the radio. When I replaced the front speakers, the driver side front door speaker has the voice control box. I have a Haynes, I think it is peice of sh it. Anyway, the audio wiring diagram has no information on the Woman in the Machine. But check your driver door, and also the center console switch.

I have an 87 and I don't have a huge gaping hole where the equalizer is, you need to get the kit for the 87 maxima, it covers up where the hole is.

I have an 85 Maxima and I replaced the factory radio with one that I ordered from Crutchfield and they included the adapter and wiring harness for free. The equalizer is still there (although it doesnt work) and I can still hear Betty and the right front speaker still cuts out the music to play the voice and everything works like it should. You might want to check with crutchfield about getting a better adapter and harness so that it will clean up the appearance of the interior and not leave any gaping holes or blank spots. I dont know if you will have I searched around everywhere for the right adapters and crutchfield was the only one who had it and if they have it for my ancient 85 they will definitely have one for yours. Hope this helps...

Here's how you fix your problem:

get a girlfriend

Seriously, I think that the voice betty box will only work with the factory system...I doubt anyone kept specs on her or even mentioned it in the technical manuals at Nissan. Checked, she's not there.

Ok here is hte deal

I have the 1986 Maxima SE, I replaced the stereo, kept hte factory equalizer, bought the wiring kit. The talking girl still works, in the factory manual the voice box isnt part of the stereo. Maybe you have a blown speaker, or you didnt hook the speaker up right. This could be the problem. The equalizer had nothing to do with the talking voice.

If you want to see how I installed my cdplayer check out my car stereo page.

http://pages.prodigy.net/esemann

I basically kept the EQ, took the cassete player out, and cut plastic to make the hole the right size, if you take things apart and stuff its possible to have the cdplayer rest ontop of the eq, it took me a good while but the cd-player is installed now. For the wiring kit I had to do some of my own wiring but it wasnt too hard.

Too bad I had to get rid of my Maxima, but check out my website. It has some helpful info.

Thats my 2 cents.

Thanx for the info, however, I had removed the equalizer, well put it in another way, revamped the entire stereo system. I don't even use the speaker wires that comes from the stereo! All RCA plugs. Nevertheless, you gave me a great idea, you guys might wanna try this out with your cars that has the same problem; I still have those factory wiring from the radio and eq, so i will trace those wires back to the connector that goes to both the eq and that b i t c h box and maybe I will find the wires that runs from that box to my Infinity speaker. I know it went to the driver side door...........

From what I can remeber from the equalizer, is the cassete player is a preamp, it doest not provide power to anything just a signal. But in the equalizer there is a connector that plugs into it, it was for the speakers, I bought Maxima wiring kit for like the 85 I think it was, then I broke the adapter, and used those little metal plus and then crimped my new wires to the wiring harnes plugs, then I pluged them into my plug that came from the EQ.

I had the factory manual so I had the wiring diagrams, but if you do this, then you can get the talking voice back!

I hope this all helps. If you have any other questions respond to this and I will post back.

Thats my 2 cents.
