L24, L26, L28 were all 6 cyl. Don't know which the diesel was, but it's cool you're still running one. The US auto bying public is biased against diesel in general, in part because we have never had to pay $4-6 a gallon for gasoline. If you like your diesel, don't take any lip. Thanks John thats a what Iza came here for. Widdle help with my new used Ratsun. I've owned a few 510's, and Roadsters in my days. Im happy to be back with a ratsun again. This will be my daily driver.
Right now I need some drivere side rear suspension parts and alll new filters etc. Any sugestions?

Well I have two of them , '82 sedan with about 86k and '83 wagon with about 124k, I believe we have posted and replyed to other threads on the BB board.

Are any of you running Vegetable oil fuels (Biodiesel, or WVO)?

I'm a British roadster type in general but I have been wanting to talk to someone with a background in the Datsun 1600, 1800 and 2000 roadsters. One of these days I have plans on getting one just to compare it to a Triumph or MG of that period.Originally posted by coachgeo

I had stock 2 liter Roadsters. both a solex version (twin mikuni Solex and different cam) and the other verson with SU's and a slightly milder cam. I really miss them. Steering was sweetttttttt. and I sware the rear was a posie. sure acted like it on dirt roads
X cross member frame. Kickn 5 speed. My solex version did 30,60,90,110mph in gears in 1 thru 4 and fith gear was still there.

I have been looking for an early 2 litre with SUs on e-bay. Nothing against Mikunis, I'm putting 4 of them on my Spitfire, but with the SU's I can step up to HS 6s or if I can afford it, HS 8s hehehehe.Originally posted by coachgeo

The Maxima Diesel is a 2.8L engine but it is stroked. It has a longer stroke than even the Z's 2.8L
So I'm not sure on the piston bore; it might be the same bore as the 2.4L as engine but stroked so much that it is a 2.8L capacity. They run very high compression of course.

If I understand how this all works the 2.8 must have a larger bore cause it is the volume that lables an engine a 2.4 or 2.8 etc. There fore a 2.8 surely has a largr bore. Originally posted by Bleach

The stroke is longer on the diesel to increase compression which like you suggested is typically higher on diesels. This is cause high compression is part what makes a diesel work.

Yes, the L28 does have a larger bore. The Z folks will typically find a Diesel Maxima crank (if one can be found) and use them in their L28 blocks. With little modifications they end up with a stroked Z-car engine running on normal gas. They must use different pistons and connecting rods but the procedures are all spelled out from people who have done this before. With a 3mm overbore they end up with a 3.1 liter straight six that has a lot more torque and potential horsepower than the 280Z's 2.8L

OK, so where is the real Maxima Diesel info? I am looking to buy one for my Mom who wants to be able to run biodiesel in it.
What is the actual MPG of these cars? What other issues are there I should know about? The one I'm looking at is a 1982 sedan with 153k miles. Thanks.

You'll get anywhere between 20 - 25 mpg with the 3 speed automatic. The 5-speed can get upwards of 30+mpg.
You'll also need to replace every rubber fuel line. The factory lines are not resistant to the corrosive properties of biodiesel. I'm planning the same conversion on mine as well as installing a turbo & exhaust manifold from a 280ZX.
