It's not the slave cylinder, I found out. The release lever, or whatever it is that the cylinder piston pushes in, does not spring back out, which doesn't push the cylinder piston back in, which doesn't push the clutch petal back in. which is why when I pumped the clutch petal it sprayed brake fluid across the street. you can take that release lever and move it back and forth effortlessly. I guess I'm screwed now and need my clutch repaired?

Yes, it sounds like you will need a new clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing...

As a kit, they usually run about $100 - $150...the labor, however, could be high, as they have to drop the tranny out of the car.

Yup, sounds like its time for a clutch. Are you planning any performance mods for your car? If you are, you might want to install a performance clutch, like from Centerforce. If not, a regular clutch kit will do. Be sure when you do have the clutch replace that you have the flywheel checked and resurfaced.

And actually, it's likely just the throw-out bearing, or the pressureplate springs are fatiqued...but it's never a good idea to just install a new pressure plate without a new clutch or bearing, etc...

what can I look to spend to have this repair done? nobody wants to give me a specific estimate because they don't know what's wrong.

Expect a complete clutchjob to be around $300-$325.
