Well this sucks my ***....maybe with all that was going on saturday, it would explain this. On saturday I was helping iansw with his 5-speed conversion project on his 97. That morning, I went to the winchell's donut shop for breakfast, and when leaving, I was going over the little curb ramp thing. Well, as I was trying to beat a car out, I bottom out the rear of the car really bad. Basically it ripped the hanger on the bottom side of the muffler off of the muffler. So now I have a hole in my muffler. To top it off, through out the day, I had a nasty habit of hitting curbs....4 times total. Oh well, that is just messed up. Anyway I need to replace the muffler. I can take it back to the shop I had the muffler done at and get it replaced again under lifetime warranty for a service charge. Or I get an aftermarket muffler now....without doing the rest of the exhuast. If I do the first option, I could get an 87-88 style dual tip muffler. If I do the second option, I could get the universal muffler I wanted. The other option is to get a 5th gen muffler, with or without the chrome finisher. Dunno yet. What do you guys think?

Get with the 5th gen. When ever I get my muffler system replaced its going with the 5th gens se muffler. Shouldnt be hard to locate one here with all the modded maximas. First the rear oil seal then well see where everythign from there leads us.

That's what I'm thinking....I can keep my car quiet...but have a nice can of whoop *** when I open her up. Now, should I go for the polish tip that the 2000-2001 SE have, or go with the dual polish tip like the 2002-2003 have...or no polish tip.

Well both 2000-2001 and newer had the dual tips. the 200-01 just come with that polished cover to go over both of them. I like the polished dual tips the 2002-03 models have. I think thatd set it off nice.

Its up to you though. Im going with the 2002-03 models when I get around to it. I tried to get a muffler from a junk yard from a 99 maxima a long time ago. They wouldnt do it. Because of some emissions law that states they can sell everything except stuff dealing with emissions. But if you bought the whole car you get it, but then why do that just for a muffler. So the only best options are to shop here. Unless you can find a place that will sell them to you.

Yeah, in my state, as long as I don't mess with the cat, everything should be fine.

But first, you gotta stay off the curbs, or you'll be fixing more than just a muffler......
