swapping 3rd gen onto my 2nd

I was looking at maximas86 maxima and he said and showed 89 max side mirrors, as well as an 89 max 5-speed to witch he was going to put on a aftermarket shifter, since the 3rd gen tranny is the same as the 2nd gen, will the aftermarket shifter still work, and what company makes this shifter, and on the subject, what other parts can a person source from the 3rd gen. Thanks

Actually, I have 88SE mirrors. The 89 styling won't fit 2nd gens. As for the tranny, you have to reuse your shift linkage you have now since they are different. You can get away with a aftermarket shifter. The thing you have to be aware of is the bolt that goes through the bushing maybe bigger or smaller....but usually it's the same size. (I ran into this problem with the short shifter I bought the bolt needed to be smaller to go through the bushing...but I think it's because it was an el-cheapo ebay one for a 4th gen, but I have a B&M one I'm getting from a friend that should work. I compared the used for the 4th gen with a 2nd gen, and it seemed to be the exact same). The shifters are essentially the same from generation to generation, maybe some differences in length. As for other things to use, if its a VG 3rd gen, most engine components can be used on the 2nd gen VG, door light covers are the same (and they are clear on the 3rd gens), you can use the half-din cupholders with modifications. Hubs maybe used, but the issue is the spline are most likely different.
Other than that, its a completely different beast.
