I'm thinking about buying an 81-84 Nissan Maxima and Installing an L28 Turbo in it. I'm looking for the specificaions on this car...how much does it weigh? Etc...thanks very much, Chris

PS-are there any companies that sell air dams or spoilers for this car?

Damn the L28......

If you decide to get that car use a VG30ET. It will make alot more power per mod and way more torque. Of course it would help to have a wrecked 84-89 300zx turbo to take all of the parts out of.

Is the VG30ET a direct bolt in?

I was planning on using an L28 because I was lookin for something that I could swap into my Z when the time is right...

What kind of Z do you have? I have seen 350 chevys, VG30DETT's, VG30ET's in the 240-280Z. From a cost stand point its easier to use a VG30ET because the parts can be had for cheap. Or you can with a small block chevy or ford engine, I forget who makes the mount kit though.

Zsss

Right now i have 2 '76 280Zs. Both 100% stock. I've thought about V8 conversions, and the money adds up to enough that I would not be able to get my money back out of the cars. I know for about $300 I can get an L28 Turbo, install it, and mess with intake and exhaust...pushing 250 hp before I even get an intercooler...whereas it costs about $300 for the V8 mounting kits. I've only owned 5 of them, and I like the reliability of the Datsun engines...I'm looking to try something a little more original...I will keep the others in mind, though, thanks again, Chris

The L-28 owns the VG for ease of modification. The L-28s are cheap and plentiful also. Read the book "How to rebuild a OHC Datsun and Nissan" or something like that. Great book..

Install the Skyline engine!->

Straight 6!

yeah install the L28 turbo. You can get just about as much power as you want, if you have the bucks. I have seen a L28 turbo in a 1-gen maxima. Super clean install.

Spoilers

You may find a universal wing that may fit your car from Erebuni or Wings west.

Sounds like an intersting project. If you're going to use an L28ET, then I would suggest one from a later 280ZX turbo with a matching 5-speed. The early models (1981.5) only came with automatics.

What I liked about this car was the dash. Full instrumentation, but the early model speedos only went to 85 MPH.

With a good suspension set up, it should be a good challenge to BMWs.
