i was wondering if by swapping out the ecu's from a 300z to the maxima, if u can actually tell a difference in power, ive thought about doing it but wasnt sure if i would even be able to tell a difference, any help would be great!

 

I put one in my 86 wagon, drove around for a while and the car seemed to
have more get up and go, but when I got back, the car was surging really
bad and wouldn't idle very well.

I put the original one back in and haven't gotten around to trying the Z
ecu since.

really there isnt any difference between the two. The 300zx and the 2nd gen maximas had the same engine ours made 152 hp the 300zx makes 160hp. And Im pretty sure its not because of the ecu. In fact when the 300zx guys have probs and need a new ecu some have went to junk yards and gotten a maxima ecu just because of the name "Maxima" it was cheaper than a sports cars ecu.

 

Well, from what I remember, the fuel maps are a little more aggressive in the z31 ecu than the maxima's, which may tune a little out of the motor, though not a lot.
