I need some 86 Max info
What's going on?
I just bought an 86 maxima a few months ago and got some questions...hope y'all can help.
1. Does anyone know what the factory issued sound system is on the 86 GL sedan? I'm trying to install new rear speakers (the original ones have finally given in) and I need to know the output of the reciever so that I don't go blowing my joints out.
2. What are the specs on the rear speakers? What size are they?
3. I never got the standing code for the keyless entry pad from the person that I bought the car from because since he was the second owner he never had it. Is there a way for me to find out what my car's code is from the VIN number?
Thanks for your help,
Ty

The sound system is either a Panasonic or Clarion, depending on model years. Any aftermarket speaker will work fine in the back because of the fact that they are design to handle more power than what the stock headunit and amp can put out.
2. What are the specs on the rear speakers? What size are they?
The stock speakers are 4" for the woofer, and about 1-1.5" for the stock tweeter I believe. There are a few options you can go with. You can drop a 4" 2-way speaker in the stock housing, and disconnect the stock tweeter. You can install 5.25" components, or 2-ways and make a custom bracket. Or you can remove the stock housing and put a 6.5" in it's place, but will have to be creative to cover up the hole in the rear parcel shelf for the tweeter.
3. I never got the standing code for the keyless entry pad from the person that I bought the car from because since he was the second owner he never had it. Is there a way for me to find out what my car's code is from the VIN number?
The master code should be in the back of the car, under the parcel shelf. It's a seven digit number if I remember right. Someone will have to comment on the procedure of how to enter that in since I don't have keyless entry and can never memorize it for some reason.

I'm not looking to amp up the sound cause 1. I don't have the money for it (dang!) and 2. I think that the factory system has decent power. I'm concerned cause the rears just blew out.
To make sure I don't blow it out again you think the 2-ways would be better or just get the whole package with the 3-way? And yeah, etronics has some good stuff!

Pretty much like Cardana said, here's my take:
Components: consists of a mid-bass woofer and a seperate tweeter, you need a crossover for this, which most come with. Without one, you risk blowing outthe tweeter if you send to much power, or too low a frequency to them. You will get more of a full range with these, crisps highs, clean mids, and some lows.
2-ways: Basically a mid-bass woofer with a tweeter built into the middle. These speakers will do not have as much range as components, but seem to do pretty well with highs and mid mids, and have a little lows.
3-ways: Are a spin off of the 2-way, the have the mid-bass woofer, another small full range woofer, and a little tweeter in an all in one feature. Again, not as much of a full range as components, but they still do pretty well overall.
Now which ones do you get? Quite honestly, since this is in the rear, you really don't want to use components (I did this in my car, and now realizing that it's kinda of a waste for my setup). With how things should be set up in a car stereo, the rear speakers are more rather for "filling" and not for focusing where the placement of your sound. So you probably want to use 2-ways in the back. You can use 3-ways, they are overkill soundwise, and budget wise.

If y'all don't mind can you check these out? What do you think?

OR
#2: http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...ore=&catid=351
Or is it the same difference and I shouldn't really worry about it?

I would say there will probably not be much sound quality difference between those two speaker...the sensitivity is a little lower on the pyramids (I know I will get this backwards, but since its a little bit lower you will not get as much volume at the same volume setting on your deck as you would with the other speaker) someone correct me if that is backwards...but then again it is only one DB so there would not be a big difference anyway....either way, they are both low end speakers in the big picture, but they will still sound bette than your 20 year old stock speakers

So you feel good about your pyramids, eh? I'm a little torn between the two....$15 for the pair or $10 each. You know any difference between the manufacturers.
Sorry for all the ?'s....I'm new at this stuff, so I'm trying to soak up all the info I can.

I dont really have a opinion about either brand...I know they are both low end brands...therefore they are cheap...thats why I bought them...they sound ok and I dont want to put a lot of money in the system in my 87...so far I have a kenwood cd player, and two sets of pyramid three ways...for a grand total of $130...and it will serve the purpose I want...just to be able to listen to CD's at a little more volume than the stock deck. But when you are asking about the two brands earlier....I am used to my boston acustic 6.5's ($160/pair...I have two pair) in my 4th gen, so compared to those these (my pyramid 4:...have not installed my pyramid 6.5's yet...I am doing that tomorrow) sound like crap...but then again I have everything amped in my fourth gen...so its all reletive to what you are going for.....you will not get competition sound from either one of thos speakers but they will work for playing music....I dont know what else to say about them
Yeah, those will work for what your just basic sound. I myself have a Kenwood Excelon HU, Components (6.5" in front, 5.25" in back), 2 12's in a sealed enclosure. I run a PPI Art series amp to run my front speakers, the rear runs off the deck for now, and I have a coustic amp driving my subs right now (because my PPI amp that runs the sub isn't working properly). Basically it all about what your looking in sound. The sound is awesome, but that's mostly attributed to my amps. But if you looking for a cheap deal, that's what you'll get. If you want better, be ready to drop some change.

Makes sense....looks like you're going for the same thing that I'm trying to do in my 2nd gen. Last question though....why'd you go with the 4" instead of the 5.25"?

it's more the harmonics or distortion that does the damage.
Like Cardana24 said, it's better to have too much power than
too little.
I personally like two way speakers better than three ways, but
there you need to state what kind of music you listen to.
For me, it's rock, so I like the puch you get from two ways,
where three ways are more for vocals because they emphasize
more in the 2K HZ range (typically where speech is at).
Crutchfield is another good vendor for stereos as well, plus
I like the fact that they send out all the extras you'll need
to get the equipment installed.
A couple good "cheap" (cost-wise) speakers are from Kenwood
and Pioneer. Crutchfiel has them both for about $49 a pair plus
shipping. The frequency response is like 35-30K hz and they will
handle good power as well.
Good Luck!

Hey, on another note I've been looking for tints for my windows. I'm not trying to put smoke tints on them but no where that I look can I find the amber tints....any leads on sites that might have them?
