gosh only 245, i looked at mine and i've got 367k. The damn thing still runs good, and i'm like the third owner, picked it up for $500. Best thing about the car is that in the glovebox I found an envelope with the original owner's notes on everything she did to the car, i mean EVERYTHING, right down to when and at what mile she had the tires rotated.

as far as I know it's the original motor, (course looking at the records on it, just about everything on the motor has been replaced, I had to replace the alternator when I got it, and I need to change the thremostat). And it's the SE model, so it's got the 5 speed, that definatly helps in the longentivity department. and my car is in miles, not kilos

Mine is in pretty good shape. It did have to have the tranny replace at around 166k miles....in which I got a 3rd gen 5-speed put in. Other than that, she's been running strong....still need to do a timing belt soon.

i have 27,000 on mine!

oh wait, it's a 2003....

so did the 1st and 2nd Gen Maxima all have RWD?

I only began to pay attention to Nissan in 1995...but I know a little about the 3rd Gen's (my all time favorite Maxima)

1st gens were RWD but not the second gens

About replacing things I have had the car for ummm...4 thousand miles/ 4 monthsish and I have done: thermostat, AAV, alternator, wheel bearing, tires...now for the things I have replaced that I am not sure if they needed to be: radiator, ignition coil, plugs and wires, wheels...thats all I can think or right now...and I am going to replace as many vacuum lines as possible when I get off of work tonight....I just hope the motor holds up because everything else is new.

*I know you are suposed to change your timing belt ever 60K...but I have no clue when mine was last done, the previous owner did not change it but he only had it for 10K, the the owner before him did not tell him....when do you guys recomend I do this, or are there any tale tale signs of it going bad?...I remember with my camry I had no clue, then one day it just broke! Thanks for any imput.

I remember there was a guy back in the 2nd gen yahoo group that had an 85 with 90k on the clock! The car got hit on the passenger side really bad though and was totalled....that sucked.

Just got it...

I just bought an 87 SE Saturday for $550.

It has 250K on it and needs a new clutch which is being installed as I type this.

Apparently it has already had the timing belt replaced.

I don't know of any other work done. All the power stuff including the sunroof work perfectly and the car runs incredibly well.

Few dings and scratches and the roof, hood and trunk lid are all peeling.
But, for under a grand including the new clutch, I can't complain.

What is the life expectency of these cars? I have heard of several with over 300K on them.

Whoa, I feel real young compared to you guys. 86 sedan only has 101k. I think she's down for some more action though! I like to see those high numbers...makes me hopeful for a long, beautiful relationship with my 2nd gen.

Mines at 249k miles. Second engine, just swapped my working auto tranny for a manual. The auto is going to my 86 maxima wagon that has around 200k miles.

I'll be joining this distinguished 200K club with my 1986 wagon in another 5K miles. Engine is super strong for such an old car, and tranny works good. I just ran into some good luck with a family member, and was able to purchase a 1990 Maxi with 64K miles on it for just a few thou. Car looks and drives like new, so now I have a backup if the older one dies.

I worked with a guy last year who had a black '87 SE, looked almost exactly like mine, except it was an automatic... it only had 76,000 miles on it.

talk about new.

I'm now at a cool 300k Kms. Did the timing belt last week, and the water pump for good measure. Long live the VG30E!

Does the timing belt run the water pump?

And mine has a modest 134,000miles. Runs better and is worth more then my bro's '91 regal coupe with the 3800. I can smoke him too. He has like 113,000mi and just broke a motor mount.

No, but you have to pull all the same stuff off to get to it. Might as well do it while you're in there.

Hector, I've gotten quotes from $400 to $1000, depending upon the shop doing the work...

Hehe, I would if I ever had any free time! It's not really too hard. It took me about three hours, but only because the damn belt skipped a few teeth while I was aligning the marks. Next time I'll turn it from the crank instead of the cam.....sometimes I'm lazy, hehe. If you came up here I would be more than willing to do it with you though, my buddy has a pretty decent shop. Air tools always speed things up. Plus I always have beer in my fridge.

I did the G-Tech thing...was pretty interesting. First couple runs, I only pulled like 115-120hp. Then I started doing so runs where I lugged the car really hard....and suddenly got 170hp!
