EGR Valve?

Yo!
The haynes says that the EGR valve should face the firewall(the part you plug the vaccum hose into). The chilton dosen't say anything about that. The haynes says that if you don't have it facing the firewall it can affect the Valves performance. Dose anyone know what the haynes is talking about? Has this happened to anyone out there. I just replaced this valve and it was a PITA!!
I would hate to have to take it out and do it again.

HELP

I wouldn't trust the Haynes manual too much. I dunno where it got the notion the fitting had to point the firewall. Mine points to the driver side fender. I don't think there should be any problem with it.

Yeah but it's weird how all the pics of the engine bay(haynes & Chilton) show it pointing to the firewall?

Hmm I wonder why some engines had that egr thats facing the side..mines not facing the firewall. The old egr that this engine had was facing the firewall. Im sure alot of peoples egr is facing the side.

A big crescent wrench. I took my EGR stuff off and put a pipe plug in the exh manifold as well as made a block off plate for the intake.

Well, haynes was working on an 85 model in the book, so maybe the 85s and early 86's had them or something.

Does N E one know how to fix the EGR vaccum. Mine is on constantly even at Idle. That is bad! If i take it off and plug the hose I get horrible gas mileage. How do I fix this problem? Has N E one fixed this before?
My hunch is that It may be the EGR control valve solenoid. Please if you know how to fix this help me!!
Just paid 2.41/gallon my wallet can't take this much longer!
Thanx
