Turbo anyone?

So who else is running a turbo on their 1st or 2nd gen? Just curious.

No turbo here, but why do all your pic galleries say "coming soon"?

Where's the pics of the finished project?

Or is it "still in progress"?

Hey man, long time, no see on the board...your page didn't work for a while, either...thought you'd dropped off the face of the planet.

Yeah, I got kind of PO's at the mods on a couple of the other threads, they were extremely snotty so I bolted. I can't stand when people hide behind their computer being so brave.

Anyway, I haven't updated my site in a long time. That's why so many pics and galleries say coming soon. I have been driving the car for quite some time now so the project was a huge success.

However, the project is not done as I am getting ready to mount turbo number 2 and use the new intakes as you see in the pics on the other thread, Turbo a 2nd Gen.

Nice machinework. When you say "turbo number 2" do you mean replacing the old one, or twin turbos?

Twin Sequential turbo baby! Though I'm gonna stick with one myself, I still want to see how this turns out. You'll be the first maxima owner ever to do such a thing KALSC!

Those custom mounts you made, how do you go about making or building custom ones?

Im gonna go turbo in a while. I havent decided on the engine. VQ35 the max version or the 350Z, maybe the altima version.
I hear they use some weird liquid mounts. I havent seen underneeth them so Im not exactly sure what Im getting into.

Your diving into a big maze! But it should be well worth it. More ponies, lighter all aluminum motor...you'll be out there pulling 13-14 second quarters without breaking a sweat.

The cool part about the mounting I am making for my seconds turbo is that it will make a single turbo install for you guys a total snap!!!!! You won't need a custom mount, you won't need to cut your fan set up, blah, blah, blah. Trust me, when I post pics of this it will all make sense.

As for the custom mount, it you need one, I can make more easily.

Cheers!

PS - Keep an eye out for more info on the hogged out manifolds, who wouldn't want one with more flow and ready to accept the 240SX tb.

Yeah, my plans are to relocated the battery to the trunk, and mount the turbo in that area. I'm also removed the AIV as well.

That's the ticket! My EGR and AIV is gonzo too. The crossover pipe is the perfect place for a single turbo setup without having to **** around with all the 300zx stuff.

I had my cams ground too to a 240z race profile. When this baby lights up, she puts you in your seat, hard.

The more I read about your conversion I want to try it. Maybe that could be the horrible stage one for my car?
My car car still has an AUTO trany. So that is going to be a PITA to switch. Then the motor itself. It dosen't look like you had to fabricate to much stuff. Hey post some picks of your car the finished product before you go Dos turbos.
I'll probably take forever cause im young and have no experience doing this kinda of thing. But theres only one way to get experience!
Oh any suggestions where to get a good motor to rebuild?

Yeah, all you need to do is mount the turbo somewhere else and run the piping. Then you can leave everything else alone.

The big question mark is whether or not you want to retain that big hunk-o-crap with all the air valved in it. If you remove that, then you can use one of my custom mounts which replaces the cross-over for the exhaust and mount your turbo there.

If you need to retain that big hunk-o-crap with the air valves in it, then you really have no choice but to mount it like I did and use a custom mount and cut the fan mount.

I did take that big hunk-o-crap out as I am mounting my second turbo there anyway. I know some of you guys live in States where the smog rules apply.

My smog is past due. But when I get the car legal again I'll have two years to do whatever to it. I've decided to forgo the VG30ET. Sort of,next semester I'll be taking the Engines course at my local CC. So by that time I should have another car. I plan to take all of that AIV crap out, and drop in some pistons, and rods, with lower comp. ratio a new cam. Then switch to a turbo ECU. Which will go good with the headers and down pipe Im planning on getting. But first things first my suspension sucks thats the next project for now. Any suggestions with what to do with the intake manifold?

hey what's all involved with removing the AIV?
Do I just plug certain things,or is more like reconnecting the somewhere else? Like cutting out the middle man sort of?

I can't totally remember all the details. I took out the AIV crap and it left two solenoid plugs, I just left those, it hasn't affected anything. Any left over vacuum lins I traced back and either blocked them or rerouted to somewhere else. It's pretty straing forward. I will be doing it to my friends Max soon, that will refresh my memory.

You could do that, shouldn't be too hard. I plan on using a the Z31 front header and running a pipe from there to the turbo which would go over the tranny, then a down pipe down to the flex section.

If you do headers, your probably going to have to do a custom design.
