Instrument panel

Just took out my instrument panel. How do you get the speedometer hooked up in the back of that thing. I haven't done this before so if anyone knows how to do this than please help.

well I can't tell you exactly, however when I took out the instrument panel on my S-10 blazer to replace the stock bulbs with blue ones (btw, looks pretty sweet. now it'd be nice if it RAN.)... I had to squeeze a tab in at the end of the speedometer cable, then it pulled straight out. I'm willing to bet that yours is similar. then I had to take out the speed sensor, which was nothing more than an infrared LED. then to reinstall the speedometer cable, I pushed it straight back on there until I felt it click... never had any problems with it. (the speedometer, that is. the rest of that thing is another story.) if you still can't get it, check with a haynes or FSM. mine are somewhere, but they must have walked off.

I'm surprised nobody else replied.

Dan

No problem, I've pulled my instrument panel plenty of times. Changed the dashlights to red too. First, you find where the speedo cable plugs into the tranny. There is a big knurled nut you should be able to undo by hand. This will give you enough slack to get at the back of the instrument panel. On the back of that, there is a clip you push and it comes right off. To reassemble, just push the cable back onto the speedo until it clicks, put the instrument panel back in its hole, and then reattach the cable to the tranny.
