'87 Maxima V6 Turbo

Hey all,
Obvious "newbie" here, so here I go. Ive just purchased a 1987 Maxima V6 Turbo (VG20ET) and cant find any infomation on it anywhere, I mean, i have spent countless hours doing searches and have found only a hand full of pictures, but almost no infomation, this will be the 27 (yeah, twenty seventh) car i have owned in my 28 years and would like to find out some general and technical infomation on it before i start swing spanners in the hunt for the ever elusive "more horse power"

This thing is bone motherless stock, no intercooler, stock airbox, stock exhaust, everything is stock........even has HUBCAPS LOL

so if ya can give me any links, info, general infomation on this potential street sleeper, give me a yell

cheers
Mike

No mate, I havent got any pics yet, the cars still being shipped to me, got it at a good price, and hey, if i know nothing else about it, atleast i know its a factory turbo, which is usually a good starting point.

I do know that its a PU11 Nissan BLuebird Maxima Legran, 170Hp standard, 4 speed auto........thats about where it all ends.

I was looking through other posts of fellas turbocharging their VG30E's and got me to thinking that maybe they should save some trouble and rob the manifolds, X-over pipe etc off the VG20ET and put them on the '30E engine.

But as far as i know the maxima im talking about was only a Jap release, dont quote me on it because im not sure, but there isnt much info avalible about it on line, or on the VG20ET either for tha matter.

Cheers
Mike

Can you take some pictures of your exhaust manifolds? The usa 3.0 VG guys can also use the VG30DET manifolds that originally were used for the Z31 Zs (86-88 year). But it needs modifications to work-fit.

I would say other than the motor, it's safe to assume that car is almost identical to the U11 Maxima State Side.

Jeff92se, VG20ET and the VG30ET are the same block, heads etc, only differnce is in the bore and stroke, so there shouldnt be any problem using the '20ETs parts as a doner on a conversion for the 3.0 Litre. Its just a matter of if you guys get the '20ET where you are, maybe from a jap import wreckers ?

As for a 12 sec car, with a 3" zorst, correctly matched intercooler and hybred trubo, computer etc, i might get into the 15s LOL

cheers

We could probably get one but they aren't in demand. And we would have to buy the whole engine just to get the manifolds. When you get a chance, take some good pictures of your setup.

Definately get some shots. I'm in progess of actually converting my VG30E to turbo (well collecting the neccessary parts). If I can do this with minimal custom work, it would be awesome. Also if you can get pics of oil feed and return lines, and where they go, that'd be awesome. I would actually like to keep my extra liter of displacement. My goal is eventually to get the car pulling 14's if possible. My car currently before I put the 2.5" catback piping in, ran a 16.3 N/A, so I think 15's are actually pretty obtainable if I do a few more things (open the rest of the exhaust up, 60mm TB, etc) . I wonder how hard it would be to import the JDM parts.

Hey fellas, good to see the forum is going again..anyways, picked up the maxima on the weekend ( still waiting to take pix ) and let me tell you, its gonna take ALOT of work to get this car to run even respectable (spelling?) times, what a slug, the car looks nice enough for the price i paid, but damn, its so slow....

Its a PU-11 Bluebird Maxima VG20ET, made the mistake of trying to get some more boost out of it b4 i had modified the factory Pop off valve, man, i nearly shat myslef, sounded like some one was in there with a rattle gun trying to get out LOL.

But a slow car hasnt ever put me off, like i said, ive had 27. still have a Turbo Cordia.....ugly as sin, Runs a 13.72 @101Mph........ and when i got it it was a slug

anyways as soon as i can ill get these pictures for ya

cheers
Mike

Just thought i'd point it out, VG20 and VG30 DO NOT share the same block
And intakes do not interchange as The VG20 has a shorter deck hight to the 30

Heads will fit cranks will fit sumps and pickups fit rods and pistons won't fit and intakes certainly don't fit

Hey guys..

Another Aussie here,
Today I picked up a near mint condition White over gold 1988 Legran.
I have recentally stepped out of a 10sc r32 skyline. so i will agree when people do say thease cars are slooooowww. but it's alright, it's ment to be a daily driver.

Anyway just thaught i would say hi, and let you guys know not to ask me any questions about the car because i know NOTHING!
cant find a single thing on the web about these cars.

Anyway if i find somehting i'll let you guys know

I'm not the one that's got his panties in a bind about trivial crap....like why people worship the skyline. Besides, it's the internet.....what are you going to do about it, drive up here and take my birthday away? :P

It does seem low, however we're talking about a 2.0L V6. The VG30ET in the Z31 was only around 200hp stock. It's also still more than a stock VG30E at only 152-160hp.

Love those G35 rims. I've seen the set Jeff92se has.....droool.

whats the SR20DETstock hp rating? i thought it was higher thats why i was saying it was a little low. im sure you could push the envelope on the 2.0 VG its a strong motor.

btw, i love your 2nd gen, Ive liked them ever since my buddys dad had one way back when in the late 80s

Thanks! And big props to your car as well!

Yeah, I'm sure the SR is pushing out more, but it is also about 5-6 years newer than the VG. Be interesting to see what the power curve is on a VG20ET versus a SR20DET, and maybe an RB20DET.
