From my previous post about my auto tranny woes, I received a lot of good advice; thanks! Now I think I will try my hand at rebuilding mine myself. I just hate the thought of spending 300-600 on a used one to only have it go out soon down the road. I can buy a rebuilt one for 825, but then there is close to 200 in shipping and 250 core charge (sucks). Is this going to be over my head? I know if the instructions for the rebuild are laid out logically, I can do it, but is specialized tranny knowledge needed? I work in a mechanically inclined environment, so I can usually keep my head together on organizing disassembly/reassembly. Anyone know what parts I will need? Is there a complete kit from a good vendor? How about a new torque converter? How about the valve body, is it complicated? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

 

I just got a FSM when my trany blew. So if you get to a point where you're stuck, or want Nissans step by step I would be willing to share. Just say when.

There are links in the yahoo 2nd gen site. There is level ten,and import performance. They should have torque converters. As for the tools Ill get back to you on that. Im sure there are some you'll want to have. But sarin did his without(Im not sure he'll correct me if im wrong) special tools for his trany swap.

Import performance sells a book on rebuilding tranys. I don't know if its specific to the RL4FO2A but it might be.
Hopefully Ill be doing the same thing soon.

It covers a lot of that....however, I do believe there is a manual out there on how to rebuild these trannies....just have to find them.
