Auto Climate Control Woes**Need Help**

I bought a 1987 GXE on it second engine. Some problems, but the climate control is what bothers me the most. It is nearing winter, and I want my heat working.

The blower works, however, the buttons like floor, b/l and face do nothing. The air just blows out all the vents all the time. The air it blows out is just whatever the air outside is. It was a chilly 38deg a few nights ago in northern NH, and that is when I noticed it. It just blew cold air, and during the hot days, it just blows hot air.

I have removed the radio and looked around behind there. I have noticed that little tubular shaped fan thing, some mechanical thing that re-directs the air and a box with 5 or 6 wires plugged into it. I do not know how to fix this as I have never dealt with a problem like this before. Would a back woods mechanic be able to fix this problem? Would I be able to fix this? Has anyone else on this board encountered a problem like this before?

I love this car and do not want to trade it in, but if I can't get the heat working I will have to. I am looking to the great wisdom of the ORG for advice on this.

I'd have to leave this up to the folks that have auto climate control really. My car doesn't have it, and I have no experience reparing those things.

Sorry...

i dont have it how ever.....

odds are there are some motorized doors that open and close for different combinations of vents that work or dont work.....pretty good chance theyre broked

could always check relays and fuses and see if that helps....or buy a regular heating/air unit thingy and use it like the rest of us...

What does the air regulator do? How does it tie into the entire system? I have Haynes manual for my car, and it has a prety good diagram of the entire system, but nothing in depth. I am bidding on a Nissan repair manual, and can't wait till the auction ends. I am going to see the mechanic I purchased the vehicle from to see if he can fix it.

I mean the "regular heating/air unit thingy" you mentioned in your previous post Niku-Sama. When I look on-line, all I can find are parts for the A/C. Do you think it could be something as simple as the thermostat? Maybe a new radiator will help.

oh i meant the control pannel for standard heating and air conditioningalthough when i get to thinking about it it sounds like it will be more of just a swap considering the vent selection is done by levers instead of pusing a button and it doing it for me.....lemme see if i can find what i am looking for that'll make it easier

Converting over is probably possible....but it's going to be a total PITA. I mean, your moving from a digital controlled system to a manual system.

I don't wanna convert. I want the auto climate control working again. Such a nice car with so many problems. It was owned by a mechanic, so I am going to him on Thursday to look at it.

Man, I wish I knew how to diagnose these things. I'm amazed Drjmax88 hasn't posted the entire FSM section on this here yet. I should probably read it and get back to you.

Where are you getting a tranny for $350? I've been thinking about getting one at a local junkyard for $200, I have no idea what shape it's in though.

There is a shop in LA that someone I know has a hook up at. So I can get the trany for about 350. There are also a few web sites that sell them for that much. Ill try to get the link for ya.
