Brake switch location 1986

I've just purchased a 1986 Nissan Maxima and I'm attempting to get it pass inspection. This is my problem. The brake lights stay on! I read of the brake switch as being the possible problem. Where is the brake light switch located and how do I replace or tune the switch. Thank You!

brake lights in the back of the car, the BRAKE light on the dash, or the stop/tail warning light?

the brake light switch is located near the brake pedal, kinda "above" it so to speak. it's positioned so that when the brake is pressed, the button pops out and closes a set of contacts. you'll probably have two separate ones cos of the cruise control, and I'm not sure which one is which. should be a 2-wire connector on each one. disconnect each one, and watch the lights -- if they go off, the switch is bad, if not, then you got a short somewhere. let us know how you make out.
