My 85 engine has 250,000 miles and when I start up it will make a clicking tappet sound while idiling and when accelerating. It does go away after warming up. Can I get a new hydraulic lifter for the offending cylinder?

 

I used to have a car that did the same thing. I took the top part of engine apart and found out which one was worn and replaced it. I think you can get the parts to do it online at carparts.com or just check your local parts store. Get a manual for it first because it is not the easiest job to do.
