I'd like someone to post some pictures of this, preferably what it looks like from under the deck.

sorry i dont have a digetal camera yet but it wasent to hard.i just removed the old speakers and there mounts out of the back.i then took my rotozip and ground around the factory spots so that the 6x9s would fit in the holes.wasent to bad of a project and deffinatly sound alot better than listening to the factory speakers.i will try to post up pics in a few weeks if your still interested as soon as i get a ditigital camera.

you can go with 6.5" you just need the ring adaptors.

the stock rear speakers in my 87 were like 4 or 5" components in nissan housings. i just dremeled out part of the rear deck & carpet to fit the larger 6.5" diameter and also cut out the bottoms of the nissan housings and used these in lieu of the new grill covers---this way I didn't have to re-carpet the entire rear deck to use the new grills.

Now it looks entirely stock but sounds SO much better.

I've got a 1st gen with 6x9 3ways in it. My rear deck was pretty well sun faded & dry rotted so I made a new one & reupholstered it. The metal superstructure/underdeck was cut to size using a dremel with a rotary cutting bit. If it ever quits raining I will post pics.......

OK there are 6.5's in the front. In the rear there is a component system with a 4 inch woofer and a tweeter. Take all that out. If you unscrew the 4 inch speaker there is a bracket underneath it. It is screwed in so unscrew that and (I think nissan was smart on this part) you then have a 6.5 inch opening without drilling anything in the rear. I went with Pioneer 6.5 oversized for the back of my car and Pioneers 6.5's up front. I think you may want to try to tinker with the front speaker holes. I didnt get the oversized kind and I could only fit two of the three screws in the front door ones. The back ones fit fine. Is all you have to do is get it underneath the carpet which can be done without drilling or pulling it up to put them under there. If I can do it and not mess anything up it can be done, but to each his own.
