i recently went to get my car inspected, it faild because of a exhaust leak, they guy said it was at the rear exhaust manifold. so i looked at the manifold and it seemed ok, but i can smell something like exhause but not its like VERY stron carbon dixoide i guess,so thought mabey the gasket. I got a gasket and i tryed to get the manifold off, i was working on the heatshield and got it allmost off, then the heat shield of the cross pipe or whatever, was holding the heat shield on, i ended up breaking that nut off, and now the heat shield will not even come off.
Should i just get down to it and take the intake hose and what not off so i can actually get to it
or should i take it to the shop?
has anyone had this problem??????
any help would be appriciated

i dont know, exhaust stud? is it the mainfold or a gasket?? it sounds like a lifter cliking kinda when i give it gas, it only does that untill it gets warm, (2-3 min or so)
thanks
The studs is what hold the manifold on. From the sounds of it it's probably the gasket. Mine does the same thing, but clears up. The gaskets have been known contract enough to leak when cold, but expand back to seal when warm.

Andf yes, to properly remove to the manifold, you have to remove the crossover pipe - which requires removing the entire intake tract foreward of the TB...hope it's on the front of the engine, and NOT a busted stud, like mine was...that's the onyl reason I'm getting rid of my Max...

that sounds like a broken stud to me, i had 4 broken studs and i would describe it as tick tick tick, but would go away at warm temps. id say, take it to a mechanic and have them inspect for broken studs before you replace a gasket.
just my 2 cents.

Since busted mani studs is all that's wrong with my old wagon, I wish I could find someone who would be willing to buy it cheap, fix it, and enjoy it...it could use some other work, but as it is, that's all it needs to be a driver...it's sure no beater, that's for sure...it's in better shape than a lot of the garbage running on the streets around here...but no one wants to tackle the job of drilling out those old studs...
so its pretty much the manifold bolds broke off and the manifold isent on tight , thats why it seems like the gasket??????
whats involved in getting them out, sense its the rear one its really a pain
