V6 on all maximas?
But, still not a V6
Everyone is correct. All early 810's and '81-'84 Maximas used 6 cylinders, same as later models. But they are of totally different origins by being inline, not in a V configuration, like the later Maximas. FYI - Also the inline years are also Rear-wheel-drive cars.

No Maxima was ever built for retail sale with a 4 cylinder engine. That would be a Nissan Stanza, which in the 1986-87 model year recieved a very similar chassis to, if not the same chassis as, the Maxima and a 4 cylinder engine.

Does anyone know where this engine came from? Is it the SD-33 that came in scouts?

The engine in your 82 Max (if original engine) is a LD28 2.8L diesel engine, which for all intents is identical to my gasoline L28 engine, only yours is designed to run on diesel.
