I have an 86 Maxima with a power sunroof. The sunroof does not work, it makes a noise like it wants to work but it will not slide back. Does this mean the sunroof motor is bad or is it off the track somewhere?

 

My 85 Maxima roof did (still does) the same thing and I have been told to replace the plastic gears in the set up, I am still able to give the roof a push along while the gear is wratcheting and it opens and closes fine ( after the first 3 inches it stops making noise and goes regular whirr)
