Hello all
I need a four door vehicle that won't bend me over backwards. My wife likes the max. is it safe for children?
Because SHE'S PREGNANT!!

Seriously anyone in the So cal area selling a maxima?

 

Boy, been a while:} Hi. I think the Maxima is safe for children. Not to go against the Maxima, but an 85-88 Toyota Cressida would also be a great, sound investment too, plus it is Rear Wheel Drive, and will last a long long time.

 

Any car will last a long time as long as you take good careof it. Yes its safe. I have a 4 year old and we took trips to Houston, Texas ,Austin and the likes. It was great! My son loved the car and wishes I never sold it. He actually liked the 88 better than my newer one. But its safe, to me at the time these cars were made they ahead of its time with the essentials options it came with. Put it this way atleast the 88's had 60/40 split rear back seats. My 95 doesnt even have that. Just find one thats in good condition and you are set. I still regret selling mine to this day.

 

goodluck in your search. Like Q said, I really miss mine too. I still have three of the rims that were on the car and a few other random parts...that's all I have left of my second gen.

 

Sounds like you're ready for a Maxima wagon since you like the 88. This is the last year they made the Max wagons and they are fine vehicles for a growing family. When the children were younger (and much smaller) we would load up the 84 wagon and go anywhere with plenty of room to spare. The children liked to ride in the back and the rear seats could be folded down for larger items.
I owned a 77 Datsun 810 sedan but when we were expecting our oldest son we bought the 84 Max wagon off the showroom floor and never looked back.

 

I know guys. I really wish I still had that old 88. I think I should be able to find one though. I just want to cash in all the sweat and tears I put into fixing that old beast.

My baby is supposed to be here by the end of Oct. So hopefully I can (Jehovah willing) I can have almost everything ready for our little bundle of joy.

I'll second this guy's 85. If it's in good shape, I'd buy it. That's what we have, and we put our two kids in the back all the time. Both in car seats, and you can still fit a third adult in the back!! I don't think twice about it, except when it threw it's alt. belt at 10:00 PM twenty miles from the nearest parts store. It was like 20 degrees, and turned into a real experience. We pulled one headlight fuse so we could run the heat, and the taillight fuse (so no dash lights). But, that wasn't the car's fault, it was a faulty belt (got a new one under warranty).

Anyways, yes, the second gen's are great little family cars.

 

Well there just so happens to be a 1985 Max wagon for sale on ebay in Nashville. The price is right to fix or use for parts.

2nd gen are great cars...but...

With a new family, you'll want to get something newer, and much more reliable. If you bought one to have fun with, I think that'd work great. However financially, it's better to spend a little more to get something that you won't have to worry about lasting, or running into problems that can leave you and your family stranded. Don't get me wrong, I love the 2nd gen, but a 20 year old car will likely be more hassle than good.

I really recommend looking at a 4th gen or newer if you want to stay in a Maxima.

Missed it by 4 hours...

Anyone have a functioning stock stereo. Ours works great...sometimes. Then it fades out, and if you hit it right, will work perfectly again. I'm not electrically inclined, but I know it could be fixed.
