dumb question

Someone help me out here. After I drive my Max (88 SE 193k), when I get out of the car I am surrounded by a very fumy smell from the exhaust. I don't see any smoke from the tailpipe- just a very heavy, bad, fume-type smell. Can someone help me out and tell me what it is? Thanks

Can you better explain the smell? Does it smell like gas, a lawn mower, etc...

It's the kind that will give you a headache- like if you are in a closed garage and the car is running- only a lot more so. It's not a rotten egg smell- I don't think it is the catalytic converter.

What is the problem?

i have a nissan maxiama, 1985 it clicks when you try to start it. it was hard to start at one time. at one time then it turned over. it ran great. went through a washout on a road, came home, and it died. tried to start it up, it would not start at. all it did was clicked. havent had a chance to figure it out and tried the electal circit. no problem there. all the panel lights light up. there for its not the battery or the circits. everything is tight the wiring and and the plugs are fine. the distributer is ok. havent checked the alternater or the starter for shorts. dont know what to do to get it running. any ideas. The fuel pump is working fine, also

Re: What is the problem?

You might have a bad wire running off your positive battery terminal to your starter motor. I have that problem myself- right now I just jiggle the battery cable a little bit and it starts right up. I am planning on replacing the wire the first chance I get. Good luck

Did you have your fuel injectors replaced under the recall? My car smelled like gasoline before I had them replaced.
