Need some info on my wagon

I have a 1987 Nissan maxima wagon and its the car i got handed down to me. Im 17 years old and i have been slowly working on this car i completely changed the sound system and it is now pimped out.. but i would like some info on how i could add some performance to my vehicle..i noticed that this v6 engine is in the 300zx the older model(could be differenct looks similar to me???)and i noticed that the 300zx has a turbo engine and if its possible to drop in that engine or convert the engine in the 87 maxima so that its turbo..
Also i would like to know if there any other performance parts i could add such as intakes, intercooler, exhaust or something i can do to get some more hp out of this thing

For the record, the engine is the same as the engine in the 1984-1988 300ZX. It is one of the best engines ever made. There are only a few minor differences between the engines in the car, such as the intake and the exhaust, but they actually share the same HP and torque rating, etc...therefore, any engine mod you can find for the Nissan VG30 engine for a 300ZX will USUALLY work on the Max - wagon or otherwise - with the exception of intakes and exhaust.

For a midsize, V6 powered, auto wagon, the Max can and does hold it's own pretty well. My wagon is pushing 225k miles, and although it's needing a tune, a new cat, and a few other misc parts that wear out in 14 years and 200k miles, it still runs quite hard, and surprises the hell out of a lot of people around here. It doesn't hurt that I own one of only two Maxima wagons in my area. Most counter jockeys at parts houses and wrecking yards give me a funny look when I tell them I have a Maxima wagon.

Good luck with the beast. Hope you'll like yours as much as I like mine.

Re: What did you do...

Well, if I didn't have two young kids riding in the back - my 2 1/2 yr old daughter, and my 6 mo old son - I'd thought of trying to put the airspace in the wagon to good use by turning it into an SPL machine.

But due to the presence of small children, and needing to fit their gear, plus groceries in the back, I've limited myself...I have a simple Pioneer cassette up front, running a set of Blau 4" coax for the front fill, and I have a set of Pioneer 6x9's to put in back, when I find the time to cut the baffles...

I've already told my wife that if I get another car - hopefully a 2nd gen se 5 sp sedan - that I plan to have a decent (not huge) system in it.

The plan there would be a good CD head unit (brand un-important, I look for quality, durability, and sound quality), backed by a 4 x 50 amp for the front and rear stage, and a 2 x 100, bridged to a single 10" sub in a small sealed box. The front stage would be made up from a set of 4" to 5 1/4" mid's, baffled into the doors, with a 1" dome tweet mounted at the base of the 'A' pillar in a custom tube-style pod. The rear fill would match the front stage, but with the tweets mounted at the top of the rear windshield, and the gains turned down about 15-20% lower than the front fill, to help balance the levels, and I could use the F/R fader to fine tune it. The sub would be non-fading, but would have a power switch, so it could be turned off when needed. For the sake of quality, I'd be laying sound deadening mats, like Dynamat, along the cabin floor, the doors, and possibly the roof, as well as the trunk area, and the deck lid, after filling any voids with expandable foam for extra insulation...

As for the wagon, for when the kids are a little older, I've thought of going with the LCD screens in the headrests, fed by a PS/2, with the audio from the PS/2 fed to a couple of 1/8" phono-jacks in the head rests, also...so the kids could watch a movie, or play a game, through a set of headphones and not disturb the driver...

Nice...

Sounds like a big project..i recently got my self some dynamat and that foam stuff because this old wagon shakes like crazy with 2 12s in the back blasting every thing shook but now its not as bad ..but things still shake like the back window friggin vibrates and license plate needs to be screwed in with bigger screws or something cause that keeps shaking .....but yeah head phone jack would make sense for the head rests but thats still way in the future for me ..i dont even have kids
