Yes, it is possible to swap out the transmission from auto to manual. Best bet unless you've got the $ to fork over for new stuff is to get all your parts from a wreck or purchase a parts car. Would be cheaper than buying parts from dealer.

I'm having mine done as well (except I'm adding all high-performance parts to mine cause my Max will be cruising at 650-700hp) but you do need to get a new ECU.

Good luck!

650-700 hp...what kind of work are you doing to pull those ponies, or is it all juice?

if you get 650-700 hp outta a 3.0 liter engine i must say that is one of the greatest feats ever seen by man. i would think it would take an overbored engine with two turbos, a chip, block compression of 12:1, head work done, headers, almost no emisions, a strong transmission because nissan stockers cant handle all that and most of all i would think it takes huge ***** and lots of brains

Let me remind you that 3.0L Supras can handle up to 897HP on 101 without juice.

But I doubt a maxima could do that on pump (ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE)... must be alot of juice+some

Those 800+ hp Supras usually are using a few Nissan Skyline parts to help them attain those marks. You'd never see any piece of sh*t Toyota parts in a Nissan though.

I've never seen skyline parts on a supra... And your acting like Nissan's are the only decent cars around. Any car that can do 9s and be streetable is good in my opinion.

Which would be a smarter choice. Import and modify a Skyline or modify a 1997 Supra. (lemme know)

Go to ebaymotors.com and look for a modified Supra, chances are it will list some Skyline parts in there. And no, I don't think Nissans are the only decent cars, but they are better than Toyotas. Are you telling me that you'd rather have a Camry than a Maxima? Would you take a Corolla S over a Sentra SE-R? How about an IS300 over the much more powerful G35? Give me a break man, overall Nissan makes much more faster, reliable, and just plain better cars. I have a 14 year old Maxima and yet I can easily run down Camrys from the mid to late 90's. And you won't see any junky plastic parts or shoddy workmanship in my car. Sure I'd take a 9sec Supra over my Maxima, but if I had the kind of money that it takes to modify a Supra, chances are it wouldn't kill my bank account to spend a few more dollars and get a much better car such as the Skyline. And considering the Skyline GT-R is a lot more rare, it will garner a lot more looks than the plain looking Supra, in addition to the fact that it would be worth a hell of a lot more money if I decided to sell it in the future.

Apparently you didn't get my question. I wasn't being sarcastic or anything, I was asking which one I should buy

And what I meant was the Supra was a nice car, I hate all other Toyotas.

You're gonna have a ****er time trying to import a Skyline, especially if it's a R34. They'll make you put all smog and vehicle code compliance ****, federalizing a car made elsewhere into the US is a PITA. Wait until next year when they start making the GTS, which I'm afraid maybe newer R35. Despite rumors of non-production, Nissan is definitely putting the Skyline over here in NA due to demand. It won't say Skyline, but it will be. I can't wait to see the VQ35DETT...drool.

Look at the WRX. Subaru had to put three seperate cats on the car because of the turbo. Speaking of which, check out the intercooler. It looks like a wafflemaker.

And no, not all of that hp going into my turbo 88 Maxima project is juice. Hello ppl, doncha know that the VG30 engine is also the same engine as the Z31 87-89 300ZX (minus the ECU, larger injectors, and if you have a VG30ET, minus a turbo). Do some reading on http://www.z31.com. Reliably, yes, 300-400 hp, but you can drag a VG30ET to 650-700 hp. Not that it won't matter much on a FWD car.
