WTB: VG auto transmission

I'm looking to replace the auto transmission in my 93 GXE. I have an extra core, and have considered rebuilding but I haven't found the time.

vg trannys are problematic. You can use a ve tranny with some modding. If you need on I have.

What kind of modding would be required?

You CAN NOT use a VE automatic tranny as the starters are in completely different locations. VG's can use the VE 5-spds with some light modification.

eman, do not buy a VE automatic transmission, either buy another VG auto or get yours rebuilt.

What would starter position matter? The position the starter is placed in is merely dictated by the transmission, so you would just need to use a VE starter, no? I mean, we know the flywheel/bellhousing placing is the same because VE manual tranny's work on VG's, so in terms of the starter engaging the flywheel there should be no problem

I've asked in the third gen forums if a VE auto will work and have been told it would take too much modifying for it to fit/work. Gonna have to do some digging to give the exact answer, I asked this about two years ago when my transmission fried.

Yeh check the junk yards for a ve tranny. I know they more durable because I've sold vg trannnys and they go in a day or two. I've had this ve one in my garage for months.

VG tranny has lasted 16 yrs, I'm still on the original one. I'm curious why you say they aren't good? Is mine some freak exception to the rule?

the FS section is NOT the place to be discussing this.
